The breaking points for the less than mentally stable are interesting. Voat and Gab were created because those individuals got banned from Reddit and Twitter. Raddit and Mastodon were created because those individuals felt not enough people got banned from Reddit and Twitter.
You've got to remember that these people are mentally ill. They can't process information like a somewhat normal person would. Normal people view websites like Facebook, Twitter and Reddit as largely decentralized news feeds that are personally tailored to them. These are sites where you get what you put in. If you don't want to see "Nazi" content, it's easy to not see it. In fact, most people are not going to be looking to follow /pol/ News on Twitter, so the existence of "Nazis" on these platforms means nothing to them. The majority of people are just going to want to chat with friends or strangers about something they like. They won't ever encounter them. Much like most people don't encounter the ISIS or pedo accounts.
Many of these Mastodoniggers are the kind of people who unironically share posts that demand all white men give their possessions to minorities, so the definition of "Nazi" is up for debate here. What does a Nazi mean to a legitimately broken person like Chelsea Van Valkenburg? Probably not the same to a random person you'd ask on the street. How many of them are fleeing Twitter because spergs got into their replies and refute or laugh at them? How many are butthurt that Twitter's rule enforcement isn't entirely a one-way street politically? Is their inability to process information so large that they view identity verification as a badge of approval? Given how many of them are people no one would impersonate, probably. There are way too many idiots on Twitter with a blue checkmark next to their name to police them for wrong think.

I don't think it'll last very long or at least the amount of people using it will be very low soon. There aren't enough people, and not enough variety of people. People also sometimes want to share their interests with those that aren't aware of those interests. Better to go with the biggest company/site.

So apparently one reason people are possibly flocking to Mastodon as of recent is because of a troll/trolling group that goes by the name of "threat slayer" and claims to "clean up Twitter". Their tactics involve searching for old tweets and reporting people for even joke tweets saying things such as "kill yourself". This has been going on since around the start of this month as seen in this post in the Beauty Parlor. Twitter users are still locking their accounts en masse and some people are even leaving the site for good due to rumors of accounts being used to report flood.
I also found this interesting and neutral technically focused article from around the time of initial media coverage that sums up everything wrong and right about Mastodon. Some of them are problems that plagued other new competitors to social media sites that tanked, while others are Mastodon specific.
TL;dr, it has some good ideas but it also has a poor implementation along with unique issues.

To make it even better, nothing in the Cybersyn control room actually worked or was connected to a computer in any way. The controls on the chairs simply controlled carousel slide projectors behind the walls that displayed pre-made slides with useless information on the fake CRT screens. Mastodon has mostly fizzled again, and searching Mastodon will now bring up numerous unrelated results. However, adding "Nazis" to a search brings up some interesting results. A lot of the people shilling this are "fuck nazis" types, who are responding to Twitter's injustices by continuing to use Twitter. Sounds a lot like Gab supporters but on the other side of the spectrum doesn't it?
It also shows that Mastodon's whole gimmick right now after this migration fizzled out again is "Like Twitter but without the 'Nazis' ".
On another note while doing digging, I found an account that's supposedly representing the project (no blue tick though) that also seems to be in on the whole "ugh nazis" gig.
