Not that rare, actually. Twitter is awful about keeping porn in hidden spaces which means people with thousands of followers are forced to manually vet every person following them.

Even worse, when joining Twitter it suggests accounts for you to follow. Things like 'Baby Animals' and 'EarthPorn' that are accounts who seem to operate via submission, and so are frequently spammed with hardcore pornography and shady advertising yet have hundreds of thousands, sometimes millions of followers.

Twitter allows those underage to use it while at the same time not making it very difficult to disable the 'do not display sensitive images' option. Couple that with their 'suggested accounts' algorithm(which I mentioned in the previous post) not being curated in any way plus the platform being so open to abuse by bots of all kinds, and it becomes clear they have little interest in actually doing anything to stop questionable material being readily available to people of all ages with a single click. Requiring users to have a mobile phone number to activate accounts is not a strong enough barrier to entry when most kids and teens have a cellphone available.

Now, of course one can find porn anywhere on the internet, so Twitter also having porn is not surprising in the least. You cannot reasonably suggest that they manually vet every person who might happen to follow them. That is not feasible and flies in the face of reality.

If Twitter had better tools or more strict rule enforcement? Perhaps it could be done, but as it stands users are not required to state their age and expecting someone to comb through thousands of followers at all hours of the day before deciding to interact with anything that could be considered Adults Only is absurd. Twitter couldn't even fix the problem by outright banning pornography on the site because that would require them to disable all image/video uploads and links to outside content to avoid people continuing to upload porn.

When it comes down to it, Matthew happening to comment on porn or like it when they also have someone underage following them is par for the course rather than something unique to this particular dickhead. It is the symptom of a much larger issue. This is precisely why people create AD accounts and warn about possible NSFW content in their profiles.

Yes, you can vet thousands of people with the lack of official twitter support. It's called a private twitter #afterdark and furfags on twitter understand they maintain it themselves and vet the people they mutual with so they don't blight the rest of humanity with silicone dog dildos. Some of these accounts are mutuals with 1000 other furries and thats the risk or exhibition they are willing to take in their private sphere of influence.
