I wonder if he has legitimate brain damage from drugs/drinking combined with years of doing nothing but watching brainrotting bullshit. Also, I've seen in the DSP thread lots of discussion about how social isolation gives you brain damage. He definitely used to seem sharper. Now it's more in fleeting moments, with a lot more senior moments.

the hilarious part is that outside of nicotine he hasn't really done much drinking or drugs, he only got into both around 30 years old. right before jules got there he said that an eighth and a handle lasted him about a month. mind you when people talk about brain damage from drugs/drinking they're talking about knocking back a handle and an eighth of weed in a weekend.

if anything regular weed use made him smarter, before weed he was just drinking during shows and getting blackout drunk. and he sucked and the shows sucked.

I do hate how Mike would go "I've been broadcasting for 20 years" like it doesn't matter if the show was only good for 5 of those 20 years. And it really is that, 2016-2021, everything outside of that range sucks

He didnt get into drinking until he met Kyle, Mike even shittalked Fritz for drinking beer on the show in 2009. Mike has never admitted to doing coke but has said he did "speed" during the club days and based on how he treated a caller that was a cokehead in 2012 i'd say he didn't ever do cocaine. once the comedy club ended he started drinking heavily on the show itself. Mike was too poor to afford drugs on a regular basis.

I dont want to come off like I'm running interference for Mike, so let me say first that he's a jobless scammer and he's keeping Jules hostage likely at this point.

It's very funny to have seen like four generations go through the cycle of "this mike dudes pretty funny!" To "what am I paying for? PUT OUT A FUCKING SHOW!" The only thing I ever paid for from him was the boarding school story on mp3. "Why would you pay for that??" Back then it wouldve actually been a file I would want on my mp3 player! (So retro!) Because phones were still gay. It was like a 10 hour podcast. He never sent it to me! I emailed him. He told me to put in a ticket. Never got it. It's a fucking file!! But from that experience I was like ok, this dude is never getting my cc info again. Very glad that happened. I would have loved to get the Chula shirt though.

I mostly get my foolswatching kicks from Kino Casino these days since they actually do shows somewhat regularly. It's not the same vibe, it's way more manic and there is no feminine balance (actually a big part of the Redbar dynamic in my opinion), but it satisfies my strange urges to hear people get comedically trashed for hours on end.

For a while I followed a few Youtube channels like Podcast Cringe and 2Lazy2Try and so on, Mike has shouted out most of them by this point but they're basically just Youtubers who have taken up Mike's roster of fools, covering them on a daily basis. I stopped following all these channels though because I feel like all the guys Mike was picking on the last few years (the Rogansphere) not only got very boring and repetitive but also just got too much coverage of this kind. I don't want to see the same clips of Brendan Schaub saying something dumb again and again and again. And frankly none of these guys are as funny as Mike and the ten minute Youtube format sucks balls. So I stopped.

That saturation of the genre is something I hope Mike can figure out how to respond to and evolve the show. I am not a fan of the other segments he's introduced to try and replace foolswatching so far. Redbar in the Wild and so on. That one was funny right after he came back because the comedians were not expecting it and they got alarmed. But it's no longer funny. It's just an old bit, it's at the point where these dumbass comedians literally say "Redbar, love that guy" on their show and he shows their hack faces on his TV and says "thank you!" while Jules giggles.

Maybe he himself doesn't know how to evolve the show at this point. That could explain the increasing absenteeism.

i listened to so many of those episode's at 2x speed. remember those 5 hour aftershows of Mike just doing covers, Mike was king of the incels back then, how pathetic would you have to be to listen live back then. i remember being on the O&A subreddit and thinking he's a tool, and yeah back in 2016 i was right, those episodes sucked.

i remember when he had Rene pay like $10k for the demon story and mocked her for asking for it during a failed marathon show. Like it was a pure grift too because he accidently said it on a drunken aftershow years earlier. it wasn't even a "story" so much as him seeing Brian Berris get huge praise for the story and wanting it told on his show not realizing it was more in Brian's charisma than it being a good story.

In general Mike was so jealous of Brian and the WMR crew, because they were actual friends, which Mike hadn't had since middle school. He even admited he peaked in middle school, and once he became an outcast in high school he left and thats how he ended up being taken out of high school altogether.

There's an episode where he's live in LA with Patrick Melton and you could understand the relationship back then, Patrick treated mike like the loser he was, but the way Mike would "trickle down" the bullying led to him going overboard with Rene and the crowd of friends turning on him, i think he even admits a girl wanted to fuck him before the show, and after completely abandoned him. that's how bad it went, he lost out on having sex, and this was back when he tried being a "gymbro" sex style guy, and he didn't have sex for like 6 months because his personality was so dogshit that he couldn't get laid.

Another fun bit is in 2017 Mike was super into these alt-light guys like Gavin Mcinnis and desperately wanted Baked Alaska to come on as a co-host, like he said Baked was the coolest dude he saw on some 2017 episode.

its genuinely amazing how this guy can have so many Ls in his career as a podcaster and still end up successful just from not giving up.

People talk about mike's greatest prank calls, but what about his worst? i think his worst for me has to be his scientology prank call, this stupid fuck just watched the HBO doc and decided to call them up, but he's such a retard that he needs to have basic concepts he just saw HBO explain, explained to him again. It was the same shit with cosmos, like Mike didn't even know what the fuck the water cycle until Fox explained it to him.

even his subreddit is turning on him, people forget that the BBG for the first couple years didn't even like redbar, he was their opie, it took Jules basically taking over as head writer and show runner for them to start watching consistently. Even Mike admits they didn't really like him in 2015.

In conclusion only 2015-2021 was "good" redbar. torrent those episodes, don't sub even if you do like modern redbar unless a "scarsclub only" episode just came out, but more likely you can sub/pirate those too. his output is too low to make subbing worth it.
