Can we talk about Annapurna Interactive, the publisher of this game?
It's a company founded and co-owned by Megan Ellison, the daughter of Larry Ellison, the 5th richest person in the world, according to Forbes... so a fucking nepo baby.
I had a quick look at their portfolio. Look at this shit:

Is it just me or does all of this crap look like the same kind of pretentious artsy fucking garbage where the game isn't the point of the game?
It's like the gaming equivalent of a movie studio that exclusively releases Lars von Trier, Terrence Malick and Gus van Sant movies, holy shit.

The company's claim to fame is that Journey game that came out a while ago and got praised to heavens and back by the press.
At the time, everyone fell for it, that game was a success.
Ever since then, they've been releasing the games I've posted above and the ones I can recall, Gone Home and Stray, got similar treatment by journos, calling it the greatest thing since Pong.
I'm willing to bet that all of these games got great mainstream reviews and it totally wasn't because Megan paid them off.

We really need to be on the lookout for this company and what their next release will be before it happens so that everyone is ready and we won't get suckerpunched like we did with Mixtape.
I liked Stray, my hurt feelings. Mixtape looks super AIDS gay.

Most astroturfed game I've seen in a long time, it's actually unbelievable how blatant it is. Steam reviews read very positive, but all the most recommended/helpful reviews are thumbs down though, so at least it looks like people caught on quick.

Only two on that list that I recall playing and sort of enjoying were Donut County and Stray. I did try Neon White since the art style and setting seemed neat but fuck me I hated the gameplay.

Curious if you all are right about this being GG2.0. Certainly has that vibe. If anything it'll be fun to see the Left contorting themselves to defend a company run by their mortal Jeuden enemies.

In the sense of a publisher run by a nepo baby able to throw ridiculous amounts of money at a small dev for a shit $20 game, to get higher review scores which should be considered unethical in game reviews? Absolutely. It's not really about this being "GG 2.0" it's the same old gamergate shit it's always been. This was reviewers getting bribed over nostalgia slop. The big AAA publishers bribe reviewers with vacations(international even sometimes). Gamergate just started with someone literally blowing journos. Meanwhile damn near every game review site still currently has or has recently had ads for videogame or videogame adjacent shit while trying to pretend it has no impact on their reviews.

Same as it ever was. This time it's just so fucking obvious people caught on within hours. Fucking Dustborn wasn't even this absurd.

I had a mixtape once. Shared it around, people did not like it.

I feel it. Purposely made one to fuck with folks at an old job (we had radios on the line that had assigned days for each person on that line to play whatever that person wanted). Mine had stuff like Bowie (but none of the 'good' stuff), Queen (same deal), Linkin Park (but it was shitty covers I ripped off a CD I picked up from a music shop), Tiny Tim, and a couple of selections from The Planets.

Needless to say my coworkers were not fans of Mars Bringer of War, Strawberry Tea, or Uncle Arthur.

How did Due Process or Neon White make it into that lineup? Though looking at the Steam page, looks like Due Process is an early access game no longer published by Annapurna. Also I'll admit Gorogoa was actually decently fun: too bad I played through it multiple times for completion and still have under 2 hours when they charge $15 base price. Same sort of story for Storyteller, although less interesting but at least longer.

Its definitely astroturfed, though people do like their movie-games. Dispatch was pretty big, though that had sex which probably boosted things.

They published Donut County, a katamari-like, and To a T from Katamari's creator (which failed btw). Donut County honestly wasn't bad, but like many Annapurna games quite short.

It might cause Gamergate 2.0, though I will say it definitely looks like it had more effort put into it than what Gamergate 1.0 started with. Also, to be perfectly honest, it probably only needed advertising to get all these 10/10s, journos love this kind of game.

I'll go to bat for Outer Wilds and Neon White. Outer Wilds is a puzzle game/small space exploration game with a really fun movement system.
Neon White while having very cringeworthy dialog is a very fun time trial FPS game.

This is definitely Gamergate 2.0. Mark me dumb if you will but it is parroting it.
You've got Journos, Game companies, influencers, and more all circling the wagons to protect this.

It wasn't for sex this time. They sold out for a rich jew's cold, hard, cash.
They shouldn't have gone for the 10/10 and bought all those steam reviews though.
Indie Devs are calling it out, everyone is noticing the real absolute bullshit of it.

I think people are just sick of this and it is like the ultimate balls out on the table "yeah its astroturfed what are you gonna do about it?"
Everyone defending it is probably scared to lose money from these people.
I really doubt it. The game didn't even get review bombed on Steam, it's inoffensive in tone and wokeness, just yet another 3 hour movie for people who don't play game to put it on their "favourite games played" list.

And Indie devs are even worse in corruption and shaming people who criticize their games. Look up the Selaco Yhatzee debacle, or the fact Silksong is considered an indie despite having a 10 million dollars budget.

If nothing else, this should teach dumbfuck devs that game journalists are basically irrelevant. The only reason they bother letting those subhumans suck their dicks is that they're all one big gay commune of Marxist faggots.

All their 10/10, glazing and shilling barely moved the needle when it comes to Mixtape's sales. The game peaked at around 2200 players, which, while significantly more than Dustborn and other similar flops, is still a catastrophic number considering all the money spent on the marketing and media push, plus all the cash they burned on licensed music.

Also, being that it's an artfag project, I bet the devs took their sweet time to make this pile of shit.

I'd argue Silksong is an indie, if only because Team Cherry fulfill the "independent" in indie.

The fact an indie developer, that also does their own publishing, can command such a budget, should tell you everything you need to know about the current state of the industry.

But yes, I do agree that the indie community is an incestuous circlejerk of primadonnas and hipsters that conspire together to pressure and sabotage developers that don't subscribe to gay race communism.

Soyboy beta cuck & simp Andy Cortez of Kinda Funny is shilling for Mixtape.

It's been said before, the but the nepobaby that funds this dogshit "game" is the daughter of a hardline Zionist kike that donates shitloads of money to Israel, and the sixth richest man on the planet.

Where is the pearl clutching and kvetching from the usual suspects?

Aren't they upset they are directly funding the genocide of Palestinians with each Mixtape purchase?

Gotta lower the bar for gaming for you goys. You don't even get free will In this on rails walking sim. Women being in gaming will always be a mistake if you disagree your a kike

I'll add this caveat, some women, a very tiny minority, actually enjoy games for the sake of the games.

Then again, such women have been part of the hobby since the beginning and didn't mind all the "toxic masculinity", "sexism" and "bigotry", they became gamers because they enjoyed the content.

The rest of the women only flooded into gaming to whore for attention, either by pretending to the a quirky nerd gurrl, or to be a streaming hoe. They don't like games, or gamers, they view their male simps as subhumans and actively conspire to remove anything that would draw simp attention (and their money) away from them.

Defining indies by publishers is ridiculous in modern gaming. You don't need a publisher when you have a digital store that publish and promote the game for you, and any physical extra is done by Chinese contractors.

Indie should only be defined by budget and team size, with Silksong having a larger budget than most AA games, as well as hiring 50+ contractors so "technically" it's a small team.

I think the old nomenclature doesn't really work anymore since, as you mention, developers don't really need to rely on traditional publishers to get their game out to the masses, and the A/AA/AAA dichotomy is a clunky and imprecise way to handle it at best.

I guess my understanding of "indie" is any sort of game that is outside the traditional game development/publishing pipeline.

As an edge case, what would you classify the dev of Stardew Valley as? SV itself is obviously an indie game by any definition, but would his next game, Haunted Chocolatier count?

The dev has a personal wealth of at least $500 million, he's rich enough to outright purchase many a publisher. Does the fact he is rich mean his next game wouldn't count as indie?
