Modern Atari - An unexpected comeback

Atari is simultaneously one of the most iconic brands in the gaming industry but also a company that almost no one has paid attention to in decades.

After so many years of mismanagement Atari ended up being purchased by a Multimillionaire American Entrepreneur by the name of Wade Rosen back in 2021, since then the company has managed to publish some decent games like the Atari Recharged series and the Atari 50 collection, a very unexpected comeback from one of gaming's biggest punching bags.

It'd be nice if they made a minor comeback like Microprose did. That requires competent management, so I trust nostalgic BING BING WAHOO nip precursors a lot less than the kinds of spergs who played hex based wargames and flight sims in the late 80s/early 90s.

One great thing about Atari games is that because of their simplistic nature ( most Atari Arcade games from the 70s and 80s are very simple pick up and play games ) it's almost impossible to infect them with any sort of woke pandering.

As someone that enjoys playing the Atari Recharged games ( Remakes of classic games like Asteroids, Centipede and Missile Command ) I can confirm that there is zero wokeness in any of these games 👍

Here's some more interesting information regarding this Topic :

Since Wade took over in 2021 Atari has been on a buying spree, they've acquired many other major players in the retro gaming market (they're sort of becoming a mini version of Microsoft or Embracer for the retro market ) .

So far they've acquired :

Night Dive Studios ( the guys that are remastering every single classic Boomer Shooter known to man, most well known for the System Shock Remake ).

Intellivision and their subsidiary M Network (Atari's former rival in the early 80s).

Accolade ( the guys that made Bubsy, yes Bubsy is now an Atari mascot ).

Digital Eclipse ( they are known for making high quality video game collections such as the Atari 50 Collection, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Cowabunga Collection, Llamasoft the Jeff Minter Collection etc).

Romino Games ( they made some semi popular indie games on Steam like Awesomenauts and Swords & Soldiers ).

Playmaji ( 49% Majority Shareholder, these guys make the Polymega console ).

They also own the websites Moby Games (the IMDb of gaming) and Atari Age ( the biggest Atari dedicated website on the Internet, also a major Hub for Homebrew game distribution ).

Can't forget the later Atari classic "Beat 'em and Eat 'em"! Control two women trying to catch drops of semen from a man masturbating on top of an apartment building. Hard mode requires you to catch it in their mouths instead of simply letting it touch the sprites for their bodies. No wokeness here, not at all - this is good old-fashioned pre-proto-woke hardcore gameplay! Guaranteed to keep you entertained for hours! Only $143 dollars in 2025 currency - a steal compared to that old passe pay-per-view.

Atari Age was a completely independent forum for nearly all its life, corpo Atari bought them out like a year or two ago. There was quite a bit of drama involved (especially after the absurd and insane nuking of NintendoAge years back)

To be fair, Atari didn't make probably 80% of the 2600's library due to how incredibly simple the system was and how easy it was to program. They didn't have any sort of licensing system for third party developers (like Nintendo, Sega, hell literally anyone else nowadays) so they had no control over the content or publishing of any of it

No takebacks - OP has been so insistent on those anti-woke game companies that he earned his pink triangle for it, and that means you NEED to defend the "dodge arrow sprites while trying to rape brown women" game!

(which admittedly sounds a lot better than it actually was)

It was easy to shovel shit out. It was also a place where some of the most optimized, clever programming I have ever seen was done. For as much of a garbage game as ET was, what Warshaw did to create the title screen is as elegant as it gets.

I think most users of Atari Age gradually accepted the takeover, some of them were probably honored that their little fan community was now apart of the Atari mothership.

Yup the 2600 days were the wild west of gaming, anyone could make a game for the console and there was nothing Atari could do about it which is why 95%+ of the 2600s library is complete trash.

Since we're on the topic of Atari I would also like to bring attention to another related subject

There's a certain individual in the Atari community that I would consider to be undisputedly a lolcow, a man that has somehow managed to escape the attention of the Farms up to the present, PowerDubs.

This guy is the biggest Corporate Shill I have ever seen in my entire life, not even the almighty Nintendo Cocksucker Harman Smith or the legendary CrapGamer can compare to him in the shilling department .

During the 2010s he lost all credibility defending that Atari Token Crypto scam that even modern Atari has distanced itself from, he's also shilled for many obviously terrible products like that ridiculous Speaker Hat and Atari themed Hot Sauces.

I once saw him post a single thread on thirty different Subreddits ( yes he also uses reddit) just to discuss a single piece of Atari news , and apparently he's been doing that frequently for the past 10 years.

He's also developed this insane conspiracy theory that Wade Rosen ( the current CEO) is doing some kind of Galaxy Brain 4D chess moves to purposely keep Atari's stock at a low value. PowerDubs geniunely believes that Wade is somehow manipulating the stock market and intentionally devaluing Atari's stock value in order to force/incentivize other shareholders to sell their shares so that he can buy all the remaining shares for cheap and gain absolute control of the company

I think this kind of Hardcore Shilling and looney conspiracies is definitely worthy of lolcow status, but let me know what you guys think.

The 2600 was my first console when I was a kid.

I own something like 4,100 shares of Atari stock because they keep doing interesting things with their properties. The stock is mostly valueless but if it ever jumps again, even to a dollar, that's a lot I can cash out.

It's really the only company I've put any money into because I give a shit about them. I dumped a thousand dollars into Nintendo earlier this year because I know idiots are just going to "consoom next product" and as soon as Nintendo spikes I'm dumping it. I don't care about Nintendo. But I actually want to hang onto Atari.

If you think he's so lolcow-worthy, compile all this info into something quality and make a post in the proving grounds you retard

edit: that's how this forum works don't throw MATI reacts at me because you didn't lurk before you fled 4chan

Brother i created three threads on the Farms this past week, two of them were shut down out of nowhere and I was flagged and now have a pink triangle floating over my username. If this is what happens when I try to create threads on an
Off-Topic board (Games) then I'm sure as hell not gonna create any threads on the main lolcow boards anytime soon. If you want a PowerDubs thread then do the work yourself or get someone else to do it.

I remember they made a couple racing games like 15 years ago. They took place in Hawaii and Ibiza respectively, with the whole island being mapped out via Google maps. It was a bit too ambitious, but still decent. I remember it having a gambling minigame for some reason? Maybe I'm wrong.

Calling that a comeback is extremely generous. Neat I guess.
I know it may not look like much but if you compare them now to what they had been reduced to by the 2010s ( aka Atari's Dark Age) then it starts looking like the biggest comeback in gaming history.

Remember the era of Haunted House Cryptic Graves, Alone in the Dark Illumination , Asteroids Outpost and Roller Coaster Tycoon World ? When Atari was the biggest clown show (lolcow) of the gaming industry? Compared to that period I'd say what they have been doing since 2021 definitely counts as a comeback ( or at least a return to form).

I have 24 actually.

You asked if he was worthy of lowcow status kang Joey. People typically do that by making a thread.Prove to people he’s funny, that’s how the website works.
You also won’t get your shit immediately spergatoried if it’s well researched and has archive links. If you wanna see how a thread like that shouldn’t go you should check out the Nintendrew one in proving grounds. Essentially don’t do what that guy did.

Read this thread for instructions also read the Führer’s rulebook that way your thread doesn’t end up gassed.

compared to the usual "atari comeback" of "some firm buys the trademarks and does fuckall" I guess this is something
