Monitor Discussion

  • 🐕 I am attempting to get the site runnning as fast as possible. If you are experiencing slow page load times, please report it.
Look at every other thread on this board:

Tesla Hate Thread: OP had something they wanted to say about the topic.
Linus Media Group Thread: OP had something they wanted to say about the topic.
Building a PC vs. buying one: OP had something they wanted to ask about the topic.
Your current and next phone.: OP had something they wanted to say about the topic.

Now let's look at yours: "Hey guys someone say something about monitors."

If you really just wanted to ask: "What monitors is everyone here using?" there is a stupid questions thread already. Your account is about 3 years too old to be doing this shit. You should know better.
tf man, didn't null just make a post about not being a total buzzkill? Read the thread name. "Monitor discussion". What should i have started with then if i wanted to talk about monitors?

Maybe the next topic you start can be about screen readers, maybe ask for some recommendations because your 48 inch c1 isn't working out for you. Have someone read this stickied thread to you: https://kiwifarms.net/threads/manage-yourselves.63702/

I put the relevant part in bold for you, but I don't know if screen readers indicate when text is bold:
If you're going to make a general thread about <RANDOM TECH TOPIC>, try to make it half-decent and a landing page for the topic.

Saying: "Hi guys let's talk about monitors, you start." Is really lazy and shits up the topic list. You even said "I didn't bother saying anything seeing as how i use a 48 inch c1 which is something that 99% of people don't use." Sounds like if 99% of people don't use it then you have a unique perspective. Maybe you could have shared? Talk about what's good about it, what's bad. You know, start a discussion. You say you want to talk about monitors, so why didn't you start with that? Why does someone else have to start the discussion you want to have for you?

Dell P2419H, obtained a shitload of them and never looked back. Also the HP LP2475w is a super nice 16:10 monitor

stop being a pompous prick. I'm not going to start a thread talking about a display that 95% of people can't afford. If i wanted talk about something ultra specific i would have asked in a different thread instead of making a new thread.

Do you use your dell's in a triple monitor setup? I've seen some pretty cool setups with triple monitors in fps games and in general productivity.

I didn't say to start a thread about that specific monitor you mongoloid I said to talk about a monitor in the thread you made about monitors. Who cares if people can't afford it. Nice humble brag by the way. Look at the threads I linked you before, those were just the first ones in the topic list, I want you to look at the OPs in those, and then look at yours, compare them and then tell me why you're a retard.

lol, wait, that was the reason you started this thread wasn't it? You wanted people to talk about monitors so you could name drop your expensive monitor and impress everyone.

One of the first things I bought after leaving my whore ex was a curved, 144Hz Asus monitor. Like my penis, it isn't the biggest, but it gets the job done.

Looking to upgrade to dual 4k at some point soon.

4k is definitely sweet. In games, it isn't very noticeable but for general desktop use, it's a pretty big step up from 1440p and especially 1080p. I'd recommend the m32u. it's a ips panel though so it has pretty bad contrast and it's expensive,600 for the 32 inch and 500 for the 28 inch.

I have been looking to upgrade for years but for some reason I always upgrade my monitor last. I am now on a 7 year old Monoprice 27" 1440p generic panel. The contrast is terrible and the power cord is being held together with duct tape and spit at this point. It's still a great monitor for everyday use however and I kinda feel it has sentimental value at this point. I paid 500 for it back in 2015 and it was one of those amazeballs tech moments seeing the sharpness of 1440p.

Any ultrawide 4K owners here? I'm feeling like that's my next monitor. Give me something like 32" that can replicate a dual screen setup with half the cords and shit.

unfortunately 4k ultrawide are really expensive, they are in the 1k range. I would buy a 1440p ultrawide if i were you. Before i started using a tv as a monitor my daily driver monitor was a 3440x1440 curved ultrawide. ultrawide are really nice for productivity and gaming (only if you can be bothered to mod ultrawide support in). the in between a 4k ultrawide and something on the budget side would be a m32u. It's not ultrawide unfortunately but it is 32 inches and is 4k alongside having a 144hz refresh rate. If budget is not an issue i would buy the Alienware QD OLED.

The cable should be standard, what's your excuse for not replacing it?
It might not be a standard one if its actually managed to fall apart, I've never had a standard IEC cable obtain anything more than a scratch even after years of abuse. Some shitty monitor companies like Samsung did (or still do?) use external power supplies and barrel plugs for power, maybe this one could be doing the same if its some generic brand monitor

I have a lg c2 48" as a main monitor, and then two "bezel-less" 27" monitors as "wings" Im contemplating getting a lg 38" ultra wide or a g9 oddessy as a top monitor

High DPI monitors it's where it's at, if you value your eyes at all. I can't believe there's still so many monitors that are sub-100 DPI even. I always cringe internally if people who work with a lot of text like programmers show off their setups with some fuckoff monolith of a monitor where they have to crank their head if they sit in front of it with 82 DPI and less where every letter is as big as a fist and yet still somewhat blurry. These are fine for games and movies but not for text IMO.

After a lot of searching I found a 13.3" 2560x1600 screen. 227 DPI. Everything is super sharp. Sizewise because of the Aspect ratio it's about the same size of the early CRT computer monitors, just super sharp. Solved all my head- and neckaches after long computer use right there. A possibilty would also be a 15.6" at 4k, which has around 280 DPI. The good thing is, if you wanna play games on such a monitor but your GPU can't handle the resolution you can just lower it and it won't be all that blurry because of the high pixel density making hiding of the scaling significantly easier. Monitors of these small sizes also exist as oled and eink and I plan to buy one of these eventually too, although they are pretty expensive. Small monitors and High DPI are criminally underrated from a workflow and ergonomics standpoint.

My main monitor is a Lenovo Legion Y27Q (2K, 27 freedom length units) and it would be the perfect display for me if not for the backlight bleed. But overall a solid 165Hz panel.
I have used a Aorus FI32U as my main display for a while but now it's to the right of my main screen, since I much prefer a faster refreshing monitor as my primary and the larger one as my secondary. I also have a ThinkVision T24I2L on the left, nothing special about this one, I just got multiple of those in bulk at a gov auction so that is what I use everywhere else, and they match the ThinkCentre Tiny workstations I have around the place.

I've been wanting to make the jump to ultrawide 1440p, but all the 'fancy' ones are more expensive than I'd like. I see some non curved ones for 350 but everyone says to get curved one, stating that flat ones are usually crappy panels.

My other option is to get 2 more of my current 1440p monitor, which would be cheaper than a curved ultrawide (roughly 490 vs one of the curved LGs for 700) but doesn't sound too appealling due to energy costs/setup.

Can anyone give me some suggestions on this?

I have a non curved IPS one (hp x34) and i do notice its a bit off on each side if my head is closer than 2 feet from it. Its not enough that i'm personally bothered by it, but its enough that i notice it.

The HP X34 is the one I'm considering right now since it's only $350.

I just measured and it seems that I sit about 3.5 feet from my monitors so I don't think the curve is a big deal.
