What I really want to know is what cis means.

Cis- is the Latin prefix meaning "on this side of", as opposed to trans-, which means "on the other side of". It's meant to be used similarly to homo- and hetero-. It is also completely redundant, much the same way heterosexual is. One doesn't need a special term for the thing most people are in almost all circumstances. I don't refer to heterosexual people as heterosexual - they're just people, and homosexuals are the outlier, so they get the special qualifier denoting the divergence from normality (although anyone with a functioning brain will notice that they are, in fact, still people - merely unusual ones). Same goes for "cissexual" people - virtually all human beings are biologically correctly assembled such that they don't have crippling mental cravings to be in a body that has the opposite sex, so they don't get a special label, whereas transsexual people do, because they deviate from normal in a notable way.

The only place you should see cissexual and heterosexual as terms is scientific literature that needs to clearly delineate what is being discussed so that there can be absolutely no misunderstandings. They have effectively zero place in everyday conversation.
