New Gnome Code of Conduct - It's pretty bad tbh

That said, sooner or later some idiot or company pushing these kinds of CoC's is going to push just a little too far on someone and start a shitstorm to backfire on their own asses because of it. It'll be real interesting to see their reaction when that inevitably happens

I fully imagine these little Stalins will outright break the law sooner rather than later and start another ComicsGate/Weeb Wars situation, and there will be plenty of crowdsourced money to sue the fuck out of these punks.

Yes! Exactly. Thats what I mean exactly. After all there are plenty of companies and groups and all that who put stupid clauses into EULAs, TOS agreements and such, usually either to deter people from doing stupid things or to out of genuine ignorance of peoples rights and the actual laws involved, but the key point is they aren't deliberately being malicious most of the time and don't make a point of going out of their way to enforce such clauses. These CoC idiots on the other hand have the mentality of being 'right' and have gotten to the point of believing their own bullshit enough to think themselves untouchable. Not to mention usually being stupid enough to be utterly ignorant of the law (and/or assuming everyone else is) and believing themselves above it. That makes them inclined to do stupid things, to push people farther than is smart to and to try to make examples of people. They think they can put whatever they want into these agreements and automatically be able to enforce them and do anything they want. Likely including hounding people across the internet to other sites to harass them (funny how thats against their own CoC....rules for thee not for me right) and as I said, its the mentality that will be their undoing. Its only a matter of time before they set off a comicsgate type of incident over one of these agreements and trying to screw someone over as a result. Naturally they'll be every bit the victims and not explicitly and directly responsible for causing it as far as they are concerned. Right side of history after all. How DARE anyone question them or stand up to being abused by them

They're also written by lawyers, generally protect something that's at least arguably actually a legal right, if overreaching, and have something to do with business and profit.

It takes a special kind of stupid to put what amounts to "REEEEEE KILL WHITEY" into an actual legal document.

The invention of paragraphs is one of the pinnacles of Western culture.

This is the main reason why non-binary is even a thing I think. If you're pretending to be black eventually you'll get tagged in the wrong photo, if you pretend to be trans normal people will think you're a weirdo, but non-binary is so easy to fake and non-committal that it's practically a free safety measure against wokeshit mobbing. If you move around in those circles you'd be a fool not to put a they/them in your bio and then keep living your life without changing a thing.
Can you not simply claim to be bisexual/pansexual and ge the same benefit?
...then again, I think you can get away by claiming to be gay/lesbian. If they see you with someone of the opposite gender that way, they would think that you are just protecting yourself from 'the homophdobia'. After all, they count your attractions (which you can fake), not your actions.

It basically has. A large part of the ecosystem and Linux itself is only maintained by large corporations, and these CoCs pretty much exclude any entity that isn't a massive faceless corporation from contributing.
wasn't even linus torvalds booted from the linux team and gotten replaced by a bunch of mentally ill opposite sex LARPers? is the linux kernel fucked in the future?

Still seems like more effort than putting some nonsense in your twitter bio, for the same or maybe even less payoff.

I wonder if the idiot who wrote that CoCo has any idea that not only is a good chunk of it entirely unenforceable by law but that it would more than likely get them sued if they pissed the wrong person off with their racial shit and that person decided to make an issue of it. No matter how woke these morons are, doing stuff like this is just asking for trouble.
The entire point of the CoC is to force people to comply to his demands so he and his cronies can take over something that was working perfectly fine and eventually run it into the ground. I bet he knows that it's not a law but so far it works, each community has bent the knee (see how they used Torvald's daughter to force him to step down and apply that CoC), even a place like GitHub.

It's not a legal document. They're just community guidelines/house rules for contributors of the project.
It's enforced by the same idiots who introduced that shit to begin with. And they ban you from mailing lists or revoke your commit access or whatever - not sue you.

It's still fucking stupid but it's not some kind of EULA that you have to agree to when you use the software.

I think the more important factor is the fact that it is an open source project code of conduct, not a private company policy. people are not employed by a private company when contributing to GNOME, they voluntarily add code in exchange for nothing (other than potential prestige and portfolio material). if it were a private company with waged workers, that would be illegal and it would not pass for longer than a few days and/or until somebody sued them for violating anti-discrimination laws.

You can exclude everyone you like from private projects, there's no law against that, which makes developers bending over backwards when the trannies come crybullying even more perplexing. In the cases where the developers ignored the bitching literally nothing happened, see gimp.

Maybe my info is incomplete or out of date but last I heard Matz successfully pushed back against the cultist who tried to shove their pozzed CoC into Ruby. Based mormon Yukihiro Matsumoto firmly told then no and they went away.

Matz took the CoC by known leech Coraline Ada Ehmke, stripped it of any teeth, adopted the non-stupid parts in a benign form, and took Corey to like it or leave. The troon left in a huff and Matz stood his ground.
