Millennial congresswomen, they’re just like us. No, really, this one is.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, the democratic socialist and youngest woman ever elected to Congress, can’t afford to rent an apartment in Washington, D.C. before her job starts in January.

“I have three months without a salary before I’m a member of Congress. So, how do I get an apartment?” Ocasio-Cortez, 29, told the New York Times. “We’re kind of just dealing with the logistics of it day by day, but I’ve really been just kind of squirreling away and then hoping that gets me to January.”

Ocasio-Cortez shocked the country when she secured a primary victory over New York Rep. Joe Crowley, the 10-term incumbent who was widely believed to be the most powerful Democrat in the House after Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi. Before she turned to politics, Ocasio-Cortez worked as a bartender.

Now she’s telling voters not to worry about her housing situation.

“There are many little ways in which our electoral system isn’t even designed (nor prepared) for working-class people to lead,” Ocasio-Cortez tweeted. “This is one of them (don’t worry btw - we’re working it out!)”

Ocasio-Cortez is widely viewed as an up-and-coming star in the Democratic Party in the wake of her surprise win, fueled in part by her leftist policy ideas, which more closely align with millennial voters than her future congressional colleagues. She believes, for example, in single-payer healthcare and has suggested taxing Wall Street to fully fund public universities. She also supports “clean campaign finance,” and has said she will not accept corporate donations.

Calling it now, she's gonna end up living with some Private Villa of Corrupted Crops lobbyist. She's gonna break a world record for accepting bribes. She won't be subtle about it either, expect her to just show up one day wearing about half of Tiffany's.

A True and Honest leader of the people deserves only the best rewards for her sacrifices, after all..... you can't expect her to have the energy to fight climate change on mere bologna sandwiches and Levis right?

And when called on it she'll say some bullshit along the lines of "there is no ethical consumption under late-stage capitalism". Never, ever, trust anyone who claims that the system is completely rotten, because it's way too easy to use that as a justification for whatever dishonest shit you want to do.

On the one hand, yes, it sucks that it's expected you're already rich before you get elected to Congress, but on the other hand, lots of people get new jobs and then can't afford to move there. There's people who commute to DC from West Virginia!! This lady is commuting six hours a day from Riverside County to LA--about the same commute as round trip on the Acela from NYC to DC every day! Seriously, suck it up and, I don't know, ask to sleep on Chuck Schumer's couch or something.

She's got to have something she can sell now that she sold her soul... Socialists are supposed to be sex positive, right?

So she went to that sit in protest today, is she going to fall in line with Pelosi or hold the progressive line and be an asshole, challenging them at every turn causing the Democrats to look retarded and too far to the left?

This sort of reminds me of all the various hangers-on who were planning on getting cushy jobs in Hillary’s administration, who suddenly found themselves with apartments/houses that they didn’t have jobs to pay for because Trump was elected.
I forgot about that completely. Oh how I love watching a bunch of fleas get starved.

She's not even officially hired yet, and already she's annoying her boss. It's a bold strategy, Cotton. Let's see if it pays off for 'er.

I can totally see one of Nancy Pelosi's goons grabbing her, shoving her in a mop closet, and saying, "Welcome to your new office. Now shut your mouth, or I'll punch your horse teeth out of your head."

Oh, and the cause she was screeching about at the "sit in"... 100% green energy. Run the world on unicorn farts.

Because Solyndra, like socialism, will work when they do it right this time.

Hyphen-tits is the gift that keeps on giving. I'm praying they don't throw a muzzle on her. I mean, they about have to, but I'm seriously hoping they don't.

Well, she's already claiming she's being discriminated against, but it's by Democrats! I imagine there's gonna be some serious nostalgia for Joe Crowley in Washington soon. Seriously, the only thing making me think she'll last more than one term is the blindness of her voters. I imagine she'll soon be finding many excuses not to be in Washington soon. Or her superiors in the DNC will be looking for ways to quietly remove her from office.

Imagine not being able to cover 3 months rent because you literally cannot save money to save your life.
I honestly wonder if she thought there were dorms available for Congress. Or special apartments that were only for Congress that looked out on the green like you see in the movies.

I’m more upset this average american citizen who’s not even filthy rich thinks she deserves a voice in our government.

So what your saying is that the average american is retarded?

Come on! America is the land of opportunists right, da?

Jokes aside, why aren´t adults expected anymore to plan out their finances and not live beyond their means? You do not need to be filthy rich u just need to adapt and get usfull life skills. If you spent your life couchsurfing and then get suprised at 30 that life is gonna be hard, tough luck.

My granddad has a qoute for people like cortez. "put her at the conveyor belt"

I agree, she’s a fucking commoner.

Turns out the whole "can't afford rent" thing was a lie from the get-go:

Yeah it's a FAUX News article, but it's cited from official House financial disclosure filings.

But seriously, even if her claim had been 100% true, how financially illiterate do you have to be? If I were in her made-up situation, I'd just go down to the bank - any bank - and say "Look, I need a personal loan for a few grand, you know I'm good for it because my salary for the next 2 years is written into law." They'd probably trip all over themselves to do a cheap favor for a Congressperson.

That would be a huge gotcha if she ever said "I can't afford rent gimme money" ever at all.

But considering that was just made-up bullshit and isn't even in the OP, well.
