Yeah, leakers are going to backpedal until the next console/handheld from Nintendo comes out and try to make it seem that's what they've been hyping since a year or two after the original Switches launch, aren't they? lmfao

Also, Joycon Drift will never be fixed, pretty much all controllers from the big three can have them even the Xbox elite controllers which cost $160, due to using the same shitty cheapo part. So unless someone makes a better part cheaper or the same price, don't expect it to change.

We've reached a point where there is no real advantage to buying official licensed products now, huh? I have NEVER had a controller drift on me until the 360 controller, and even that lasted me a decade before it started to happen and it wasn't even that noticeable. Nothing like I have to deal with on the Switch.

Why pay 70 dollars for a controller that is just going to fall apart anyways when I could get some third party device that feels better in my hand for 30-40?

If you own a switch, then 8bitdo do the best controllers for it by far, much cheaper than the real thing as well and doesn't lack motion controls like many of the cheapo ones do. Also, works well on windows natively.
However now got an issue with stuff like the PS5 controller, as no 3rd party controllers for that on the market yet, and if third party controllers do happen, it's likely they may remove features haptic feedback among others if I was to bet.

But even if you do get a 3rd party controller that could still get stick drift, no reason to believe most of the cheapo controllers aren't also cutting costs on the sticks.

*Ahem* they did in Japan with the game boy light and did the most retarded thing and not include it in the color and waited again for almost another decade.

GBC was released in the same year as GB Light, maybe the backlight wasn't considered when it was in the development cycle but damn gb light was fucking cheap back then.

OG GB - 4x AA - 15 hr. (no light) - $90 (1989) ≈ $195
Sega GG - 6x AA - 5 hr. - $150 (1991) ≈ $296
Sega Nomad - 6x AA - 3 hr. - $180 (1995) ≈ $318
GB Pocket - 2x AAA - 10 hr. (no light) - $70 (1996) ≈ $120
GB Light - 2x AA - 12 hr. light on - 20 hr. light off - $45? (japan only) ( 1998 ) ≈ $74
GB Color - 2x AA - 10 hr. (no light) - $70 ( 1998 ) ≈ $116
GBA - 2x AA - 15 hr. (no light) - $100 (2001) ≈ $152
GBA SP - Integrated Rechargeable Battery - 10 hr. light on - 18 hr. light off - $100 (2003) ≈ $146
GB Micro - Integrated Rechargeable Battery - 5 hr. light on - 9 hr. light off? - $100 (2005) ≈ $138

The Color in itself is getting called just a variation of the GB by nintendo, that's why the device itself never got a new version with light.
Still, waiting another decade for it is stupid, specialy when the GBA when it launched was even more difficult to see what's going on because of how detailed the games where.

How is this new swith model any different than making an xl version of the ds/3ds?
The XL series consoles where that; just bigger(with minor improvements to the build quality)
The New switch has a new screen, larger internal memory, better sound, better kickstand and a LAN port.

I don't know why they even bothered with this if the screen will not be used to its full potential.

Cause it will sell.

We're talking about a group of people who already owned Switches who then went out and bought the a revision which wasn't even advertised and the only difference was the box had some red on it and I think there was a different battery that gave marginally better playtime or something.

That is a pretty stupid complain if you ask me mate

I don't understand people upset by this. I remember when console players made fun of PC players for having to upgrade but now it seems they get upset if there isn't an upgrade to their systems every 3 years.

The only times I’ve bought more than one of the same console are when I broke the original console I had (DS and PSP).

These “mid-gen refreshes” are ultimately irrelevant when all of the models give you access to the same games. That R&D can go towards game development or a next-gen system. Even when the PS4 Pro and Xbox One X came out there was no point to the hardware buffs when the base consoles play everything just fine.

Love how internet midwits are chimping so hard about it not being the speculated pro model without realizing the past year and a half of boomers and commies ruining global manufacturing industries happened meaning that the speculated hardware upgrade would have never happened anyway without being really limited in supply and a way higher price and what we're getting now is probably the other half of what was going to be released and is being done now to either recoup costs or please shareholders.

Same battery, but the SoC was changed from 20nm to 16nm, reducing its power consumption. Nintendo can't be bothered to upgrade their batteries.

and I can personally confirm first-hand that Hitman 3 plays like total ass on the 2013 Xbox One, it runs like a computer with all settings set to minimum and even has a lot of input lag from my Xbox struggling to run it

Though it does run just about everything else I've tried just fine

It's not, it just doesn't have a fancy name to brand it as something different. I said it before in either this or another thread, but I think the whole reason this model exists is because it's probably equal or cheaper to source its components than the ones used in 2017 Switches.

The honest answer is that they probably wanted to have fewer batteries in the system so they weren't shat on like the game gear. Going from 4 batteries to 2 was probably a bigger deal in japland
Was the backlight really the game gear's biggest battery life problem? It was supporting essentially close to current gen (16 bit) architecture in a handheld while the gameboy was like barely above half a NES.

The GGs backlight was basicaly a lightbulb behind the screen and drained those SIX Double A batteries in around 3 hours. If you mod the GG to have a modern screen the first thing that goes is that lightbulb.

"Just fine" if you ignore that later games in the systems life have terrible loading times and framerates on base models.

I think the last brand new title made exclusively (lol) for the switch I bought was Travis Strikes Again.

Everything else is either ports or my precious arcade anthologies.

If it wasn't for NMH3 and SMTV, I don't think I'd buy a new game for the system this year, let alone turn it on for anything than a quick session of Darius II or old Capcom arcade games on a lazy day in bed.
