You know what's bullshit? Fucking intersections. I HATE intersections. They should all get replaced by roundabouts. And who's idea was it to have you turn right on a red light like what the fuck man. 36% of collisions in America happen in intersections, they are stupid they make no sense, turning left is always a big risk and even as a pedestrian waiting for that green light can take ages. They just SUCK.



Roundabouts however, are mostly accident proof. Which is why a lot of European roads have mostly roundabouts instead of gay dated intersections.

We can’t just install them anywhere, we have to think of hills and existing streets. A roundabout has to be a certain square size and have a certain threshold of speed upon entering, or it doesn’t work. Existing infrastructure is the biggest reason why you won’t see them. Hopefully more places that are built from scratch in the future adopt them.

There are some intersections that would be much better suited for roundabouts than others. Roundabouts are great when you have several two-lane roads intersecting. They are not so great for roads with many lanes, or when you are expecting a lot of truck traffic. They also require significantly more area, and are slower for emergency vehicles to get through.

Roundabouts are at their best when one street has a disproportionately higher throughput than the intersecting street. The problem with intersections is they’re designed by civil planners, the laziest and most pseudo-authoritative in all local governments. Their insistence of having sensor (read: surveillance camera)-driven light timing, as opposed to timing lights to discourage having to sit at a red at every fucking intersection, is a major motivator in Joe driver speeding or running reds. This, however, is total nigger cattle mentality. God forbid you’re able to keep traffic moving without needing the express permission of the government. They used to turn the traffic lights off at 10:00 pm, and they still could outside a 10 square mile area in my state, but they don’t because civil planners are faggots of the highest order.

echoing my sentiments exactly. roundabouts are fine for small residential neighborhoods.
