What a shame

For me, at least, on Brave Version 0.65.118 Chromium: 75.0.3770.80 everyone shows up as offline. On Chrome Version 75.0.3770.80 people who are online show up as online.

Maximus, creator of mxisd and the work-in-progress "The Grid" wrote up a security analysis of Matrix, primarily relating to Riot but also Synapse.

Reminder that using the desktop client serves no practical purpose, and is a security risk. It is electron, which is chromium, which is just another browser. Using https://riot.kiwifarms.net/ gives you a by-default more secure user experience through the customized configuration file. You can also apply browser extensions to the client.

Reminder that uMatrix (https://github.com/gorhill/uMatrix) is the single most important extension you can run in your browser, and I advocate you blacklist scalar.vector.im. This will break integration widgets, but they're poorly implemented anyways and not really worth using.

Why Matrix over Tox?
Why don't we have an irc?
Last time I used Tox the group chat functionality was completely broken and had to be facilitated by a bot that had to invite you to a room every time you wanted to talk. Is that still the case? I imagine the reason for Matrix over IRC is because Matrix is more accessible to the zoomers who were using the KF Discord before it got deleted.

Who would even want to associate with someone that uses Discord in the first place

The goal is about competing (and now replacing) the Discord server. The biggest difference between IRC/uTox and Matrix is the client-side versus server-side paradigm. With Matrix all chat history is stored server-side, allowing for persistence and offline messaging (some uTox clients have weird workarounds to support this). Matrix is also federated, where uTox and uMatrix isn't.

That makes sense, thanks for explaining.

The matrix server is temporarily offline while some hardware-related stuff is handled. No data-loss is expected. No ETA.
I'd give it around a week or two. Guess it's back to crypto trading with you for now.
