I would be surprised if he cared at all. Linus has made it very clear he doesn't like github (rightfully so). It's not used at all for development, and they just let anyone approve merge requests on the github. It's just a mirror of the kernel. So it's not like it's an actual disruption. The only inconvenience from it, was that he went, and spent the time closing open pr's, but really he could have not done that, and it wouldn't have mattered.

Probably would have taken less time to write something to call the API and close them en-mass and then just stick it on a cronjob. Or just ask github nicely to make a fancy no-PR flag for the repo.

I don't know whether this says more about how fearless you are about powerleveling or about how many forth nerds actually do this. The ratio of implementers to users is crazy high, even higher than lisp, so it wouldn't surprise me if a nontrivial amount of them also designed their own CPUs. I can think of maybe 3 off the top of my head? Bowman, Falvo, Paysan, probably others. Well, and obviously Moore, but that goes without saying.

I have an odd fascination with the "block" format - 16 lines, each line no longer than 64 characters. It's a good size for fitting a moderately-sized component. Using lots of one-line definitions tends to allow you to fill up each line without it looking awkward. The size is such that you can always see the entire thing on screen at once with a generous font size, so you can read and understand it in its entirety as a chunk without having to do any navigating.

The difficulty I always have with forth is when it comes to doing things like producing a new image or a standalone executable. It's of course pretty much impossible to do portably, but it's just downright tricky in general when requirements like relocatability get added, specifically because it's possible to construct a program to depend on the memory layout in nontrivial ways (e.g. using addresses as keys in hash tables).

Didn't it have the issue of its spec or its reference compiler being proprietary and closed source? Or am I thinking of another language who's adoption was hampered by that?

The two biggest issues I am aware of are:

* They had a non-standard license for a while. I believe it is under a less creative license now that goes beyond source-available.
* They also had a really ugly split with the "standard" library, at one point having two competing standard libraries.

The combination of a small user base and a bisected standard library was really gross. Things have settled down now, but it's probably had its day in the sun.

There's a quote about there being two types of languages: the type people complain about and the type that no one uses. I don't hear many complaints about D.

i guess the real killing blow is that d is just a "kind of above average" language and not a "so incredible it will blow your mind permanently" language

another "c but slightly better" language is vala. it is used in the gnome world and almost nowhere else, and iirc compiles to c that links to glib (the gtk object system and platform library). i have not used it but even less people know it exists than d so i have decided to bring it up

It happened to me. I made an account and attempted to file a legitimate issue for a problem I was having. Logs, my testing, etc. etc. I wasted like an hour submitting it then realized after I didn't get any kind of response for a couple days that you couldn't see it unless you were logged in under my account. Publicly my issue number shows a 404 and the next issue had "skipped" my number. Searching online I found that this had happened to other people.

I've registered over a vpn with no problems.

I was using a VPN. It didn't even cross my mind that they would do something that gay and retarded so I didn't think it would be an issue. I will say I'm never going to use github now even just to report bugs to other projects dumb enough to trust MS.

I agree, GNU coreutils need to go. We need a modern solution for modern audiences™, and C is too low-level and unsafe, the codebase is old, it's written by problematic greybeards, it's not cross-platform, and, worst of all, it doesn't even pull in any dependencies!
Which is why I propose we use coreutils rewritten in JS.
