Oscars 2025

Weirdly enough the Holocaust really isn't acknowledged in the movie as much as you'd think it would be (at least in my opinion). It seemed like that detail took a backseat to literally everything else and I forgot about it.

Strongly agree. The Holocaust is the plot device to make the audience empathise with Toth's less than desirable characteristics, as it's not acknowledged much bar some brief conversations about his history and the ending where it's affirmed
The project was a monument to his suffering during the war.
Zero striped pyjamas and Sieg Heils. Brody deserved the win; it was a poignant performance.

Conclave was also robbed, but that's the Oscars.

I admit I loved The Brutalist, but one of the things that I really admire is that epilogue and the niece as unreliable narrator.

We don’t actually know if it was a monument to a concentration camp, we just know the Zionist niece Zofia chose to see it that way and appropriate Lazslo’s work to fit her personal political agenda.

Corbet is saying a lot with this movie, maybe too much, but he’s spot on with the idea that once art leaves the artist’s hands, they’re no longer in control of how people will see it and use for their own ends. The journey of creation is lost to the destination of history.

agree. i was stunned that of all things this movie won for writing/screenplay. wtf? fiennes was fine, but the supporting characters were flat cardboard caricatures and the plot was basically paint-by-numbers up to and including the comically stupid ending. the visuals/cinematography were very well done, nom/win for that would have been fine but anything else i don't think so. the movie is just bad
Yeah, it was a pretty mediocre Fiennes piece, it definitely is not Coriolanus (pretty underrated flick)...

Emilia Perez shouldn't have even gotten nominations, knowing all the empty virtual signaling it had the movie might have gotten awards if they hadn't been caught up in so much controversy. I find it funny that the first "trans actress" nominated had no filter and no professionalism when expressing all his thoughts online, so much he pissed off and fought with every single group that Hollywood supposedly cares about, this is typical behavior associated with males and specifically trannies so hey now you know this is what you get when you rally after them.

It's kind of a romcom, at least the first part. But most of the comedy is in the second part when the Armenian workers (and one Russian guy) of the oligarch-parents of the kid that married the hooker show up and attempt to capture the hooker so that they can force-anull the marriage. It's like 15-20 minutes of these four men (three of them big guys) trying to catch and restrain this tiny chick without harming her in the process, and the hooker absolutely fucking them up.

Idk, it's more of a dark comedy, I guess.
i found that part hard to believe, oligarchs sre basically mafia bosses, they were too soft.

A few weeks ago when the nominations first got announced I heard about all these drama with a film named Emilia Perez and the amount of nominations it was getting for what people felt was a terrible film. I didn't look into any of it at the time because I quite frankly didn't care.

Amazing how when I come to Kiwi Farms and now see that the star of the film was a troon I immediately know what every angle of that online drama was about.

The only good thing is that Disney didn't won again
An animated film made for 3.5 million Euros with free software (Blender) beating Disney/Pixar is so satisfying. Flow is a fun movie too. No agenda, just cute animals exploring a post-apocalyptic world. It clearly shows its shoestring budget because it looks like cutscenes from a Nintendo Switch game, but I think they did a really good job with what they had.

didn't the first one have a bunch of factual errors showing that the two guys were probably lying?
I didn't watch it, so I have no idea.

What I got from the movie was that the oligarch wife was an ice-cold mafia bitch, while the husband, the actual oligarch, was actually pretty chill. He was literally laughing as the hooker was calling his son a pussy. I don't know how accurate it is to have a chill, Idgaf Russian oligarch, but I gathered that they wanted to avoid any potential legal headaches with a US citizen, especially when it was their son that initiated the green card marriage. I think they were also wanting to quash the gossip around the situation, rather than add to it.

But, yeah, I guess the Armenians and the Russian guy were probably too decent and written too light-heartedly for people that work for a Russian oligarch.

I wanted more for The Substance, but gladly took Anora over Emilia Perez. Coralie Fargeat at least got nominated for best director which is based and optimistic.

IT'S JOEVER, EMILIA PEREZ'S 13 OSCAR NOMINATIONS? MORE LIKE ZOE SALDANA TAKES EVERYTHING SHE CAN FROM THAT SHIT SHOW

In all seriousness, Demi Moore would've also been great, but Mikey gave a good performance
Earning an Oscar for being in Emilia Perez must feel like waiting outside for a random star to pass by, then jumping them for one.

Like, I wouldn't be able to sleep at night knowing that I won an Oscar for being in one of the shittiest movies to have ever come out. Especially when the film's "success" is entirely performative and unearned. Hollywood needed Emilia Perez to win, but the troon's recent controversy made him unable to win anything. So Saldana was the next best thing on their list. Further evidence that the Oscars are meaningless and the event itself is a humorless joke.

emilia perez was the meme movie where they did a musical about giving the tranny gender affirming surgery.
absolutely satanic stuff.
like it seems like a meme that would be cooked up on here
but it's a real movie and they brought it to an award show
Is this really the movie they thought he would win an Oscar for?

This is cool and all, but the general public still doesn't and shouldn't care about this celebrity circle-jerk.
