You would have to disqualify every performance since almost all the sound engineering tools used for ADR, dubbing and other cleanup utilize AI.Hell it's very funny Karla is nominated for Best Actress when Emilia Perez is a supporting character while Zoe's character is the actual lead, and like Adrian Brody, AI was used to enhance their performance which should automatically disqualify both Karla and Brody since even if its minor, AI being used in a performance is like if a sports player takes steroids.
Chalamet, Saldaña, the Joan Baez actress, Ed Norton, all those singing performances were autotuned with AI apps. The Brutalist used a Pro Tools like app (Respeecher) to blend Brody speaking Hungarian with a native speaker, the movie’s editor— basically dubbing to fix a few syllables. Respeecher is just a faster version. His speech was not replaced by generative AI which is part of the misinformation campaign spread by some insane Chalamet stans.
A lot of this shit was born of the usual Oscar smear campaign tactic, trying to scare everyone with the AI boogeyman even though the people in the industry understand how these digital tools work and have been using them for decades. That’s why the “controversy” went nowhere— because everyone was afraid if they spoke out, their movie or performance would be examined and found to have used the same tools.
