Does Moonchild live off donations and these sales-drives? Or does he have a day job/consultancy type gig keeping him afloat?

If it is donations, I'm surprised he's been getting enough to live off. The userbase must be waning because of the increasingly poor web compatibility. I'd imagine the project must be near the tipping point, where it's not worthwhile for him to keep developing (at least as much as he has been).

While the project has always benefited from donations and it is his primary "job".. It hasn't brought in enough money to sustain its self since Google deemed Pale Moon and any non-ACTUAL BRANDED FIREFOX BROWSER PRODUCED BY MOZILLA as a "browser toolbar" and thus search revenue all instantly became invalid. Likewise, site avertising is almost pointless in the few places that still have Google Ads because everywhere else that would generate revenue is user content and Moonchild refuses to censor for other people.. Or so he claims.. He has no problem with censorship and now rewriting history so I think it is simply a matter of he won't obey google because the ad revenue wasn't high enough to offset the shitstorm for active censorship across the board. Plus it means he would have to ACTUALLY fuckin manage his community which has always been a sticking point.

Still, all that bs aside, the project hasn't had enough funding to self-sustain since Tycho.. (27). Didn't stop us. But then again I am not there anymore and you won't find as many crazies willing to work for endless hours for virtually nothing except the challenge and minor attention. So all this new found euphoria of living in a fantasy land where you can roll every naysayer and every problem ever faced into one big ball and call it Tobin ain't gonna be an illusion one can hold onto forever.

Then again.. this fuckin election and what has happened with Kiwifarms and the world.. maybe they can.

That is a very common user story Hugger Brother. There have always been a good portion that absolutely hates the Firefox 4+ aesthetic regardless and what's more the "improvements" to a UX style that a LOT of people are pissed at for killing their themes of old is a double insult.. AND on top of that Wolfbeast's own changes, the ones I wasn't able to talk him out of, weren't well received in about any case.

You can count me as one.. Why do you think when I got involved one of my top points was to make add-ons including theming such a priority. While I was not successful in convincing Moonchild to retrograde the UI to something more akin to Firefox 2 or 3 or to just give up on the Firefox aesthetic of any era and do something unique.. I knew theming would HAVE to come back in a big way for a lot of users to not instantly be turned off by the UX.. A shitty default UX with a way to change it and lots of things to change it to is far superior to a shitty default UX alone. A good default UX with lots of choices is even better but I am only one man despite my historical weight average indicating otherwise.

To all of you who've actually done anything productive on Pale Moon, please know you have my genuine thanks. The state of affairs for privacy-conscious browsers is GRIM since Mozilla sold out to Jewgle and PM was one of the handful of non-evil browsers that was being kept current..

It's sincerely pretty sad that the community as a whole seems to resemble a bunch of 8th grade girls simultaneously having their periods. I do hope that whatever needs to happen does happen so that there's more discussion on actual coding and development than personal drama.

Given Moonchild is once again testing the waters with throwing around the prospects of a non-important sideproject of yet another Firefox rebuild based on current firefox does not boad well for Pale Moon, UXP, or my self to be honest. It took everything I had to prevent what became Basilisk from happening in 2016 and came back to clean up the mess of Basilisk in 2018. His users want Pale Moon as Firefox 24 (except for those who want it to be 3.6 lol) not Australis/Photon/Proton/rust/servo/current-mozilla.. I don't get why Moonchild refuses to understand that people who want Pale Moon want Pale Moon and not something else.

I do want to make ONE THING ABSOLUTELY CLEAR.. Pale Moon is NOT a privacy-conscious browser or a lightweight browser or any of those sorts of things.. It only owes its PRIVACY status by the fact that there are no current partnerships willing to pay Moonchild enough for him to partner with them and be enough to compensate him for the shitstorm around such decisions. This is evidenced by the start.me service which uses google advertising because it is shared between start.me and Moonchild and as the default homepage is one of the only viable sources of ad revenue the project has left.

start.me though had all the features a FEW people requested and so was the perfect way to do something like that and only the most extreme privacy nutbars would question it not the vast majority.

So privacy means dick to him.. Security is another story but not all his ideas are correct merely a vast majority of them but privacy opinions and privacy concerns? Moonchild and the Pale Moon project is not your friend and never was. So please get that out of your head when making decisions and choices in that area.

Let's explore that little claim there tho.. Yes by leaving and no longer providing a server or infra code I have SLIGHTLY set back the Pale Moon project. By allowing my self to be manipulated into this situation it was decided that development needed a rewind, edit, and fast forward. Still the Add-ons Site was restored in April and xref was up a month later where I already described why THAT took so long despite me going out of my way to send instructions after I wasn't so murderously pissed off as documented in this thread. So.. by April and certainly throughout May everything that I apparently did was restored despite the extreme irreversible damage.. Including the port from GRE to UXP of every advancement since my plan was supposedly put into effect. Except the sabotage bits of course. Which actually helped me id a few of the minor bits. Since those were the only patches he DIDN'T port back to UXP from GRE.

So anyway.. They lost at MOST a month, and I am being extremely generous, I lost just about everything. Cry me a fuckin river. But that does beg the question: What is the excuse from June to today? I mean they have had full capability restored for nearly 6 months. They have had miraculous rebound in contribution by people I took the time to honeymoon to the project but showed barely the ability to fork a few extensions until suddenly I was ousted. Given Moonchild seems bent on being too busy with rewriting history and finding his next funding source and a few months back announced that development was going to slow down and then is surprised when someone I suggested he reach out to and integrate into development instead of having a number of unaffiliated special builds were to honestly tell them why given what has happened (and the fuckin fantasy constructed by Wolfbeast), the realities, and priorities of the people he is supposed to be serving (to get that money of course) the Pale Moon users that stupid ideas are stupid. But yeah, I am still the problem.

Seems the only past most are concerned with is only that which can be used as a weapon and shit it doesn't even need to be true anymore.

What is the future of FF 4-24 now? The theming on PM is a good time, it just needs to be a better fucking browser. I use LibreWolf mainly and although it has it's charm and the security aspect is very enjoyable, modern UI design with GTK 3/4 gives me the jibblies.

I don't have any interest in current Firefox technology. And a minor rebuild that I know for a fact has no real aspirations beyond the libre-izing of Firefox which is a practice I don't quite agree with. Either way, I may as well just use Firefox at that point and just watch mainstream media.

HOWEVER, I am planning to restore thereisonlyxul.org to something that isn't just a redirect to BinOC. On there I am gonna get back to what it was supposed to be for when I registered it. A low-bias cross-project/community resource run by me. On there I am gonna list ALL of the currently active xul projects (and a couple former-xul honorable mentions) so I can prove a point. XUL ain't fuckin dead. Neither is XBL or any of the other abused and discarded Netscape and Mozilla tech they THINK they are finally rid of.

Of course such a well meaning index would have other uses for anyone looking for all the groups that spawned from drama and create more drama.. You know Mozilla is drama and so XUL is drama

I am nearly 100% convinced that "basilisk-dev" is djames1 the same Daniel James who was the "binoc-user" and "malepoon-dev". Still, while his and a200's development progress is yet to be anything spectacular for their own projects I guess they exist.

Basilisk as a project that exists outside of MCP main flow isn't really the problem it was when wolfbeast was doing it. Like the now defunct yet-another-moonchild-firefox-fork it only ever was a distraction and antithetical to what was SUPPOSED to be some of the most fundamental positions the project has taken.

As for Borealis, the navigator is not dead as I said on the site. I just won't be releasing it as a PRODUCT of BinOC's (at the very least it won't see any sort of release under the Borealis branding) though the navigator code remains a PROJECT and until I get my new vaporware.. existing it will still be key. Though it needs a more generic name that isn't trollish if someone wants to take up the release engineering. Indeed, I am importing all the classical toolkit applications .. well all the good ones that I know I can easily keep building and just do that.. Keep em building.. Let people decide if they are worth more attention vs what others offer. Enabling others while I balance serving my own imperatives as well.

TO THAT END building yourself should become far easier if you are THAT kind of crazy of course. As you guys know I intend to still protect what is mine but won't be trying to prevent others from using stuff to make something of THEIRS to protect should the autism strike them. Though this and a year trying to tweak a plan that by its very nature wouldn't work so well on a longer term without external support and contribution.. Doing basically all the things requires DOING ALL THE THINGS. As such I am returning to the orginal Mozilla CVS-style structure to facilitate my redirected and refined strategy to let the moonies chase the Google Cloud I am gonna create something new using this tech I am hopelessly devoted to... And get their stuff as well and fix their fuckups. Remove my build defines will yo--
