Kinda retarded that he runs those servers bare metal. In that position I'd virtualize even if it was the only guest on the system since VMs add little overhead but give you the ability to do snapshots and rapidly restore onto new hardware.

But given the low memory utilization I'd consider just setting up CPU affinity and running 2 guests then forgoing the 2nd box and using the saved money to upgrade to a new box with AMD's Genoa EPYCs as the performance would shit all over that older Rome CPU and give you the option to use gen 5 storage.

The Pleroma guide on scaling poo poos virtualization but it seems to be largely based around people running instances on over provisioned public clouds. Chudbuds used to be hosted on a BuyVM instance and ran ok even with their average reputation for performance.

He's probably overprovisioned on hardware but doesn't want to scale down as that'd involve building a new Gentoo box and his retarded choice of a meme OS has made that a needlessly difficult task.

Also poast.org is still registered to Njalla. I checked his timeline quickly to see if spy.pet getting fucked over on their domain was mentioned but nope. I guess he's too busy compiling kernels to pretend to become ICANN accredited.

Pleroma is extremely I/O-bound, especially on an instance as large as his, and the virtualization overhead might be critical. Admin of FSE often mentioned that moving the database out of VM to the host machine improved the performance tenfold.

To be exact, they got their Stripe account back. Monthly funding itself hasn't reached the old levels yet.

To be fair, it's only been 24 hours since it got reinstated.

They've been getting non-CC donations through crypto and mail in checks, but that isn't tracked by the automatic bar. Graf had previously cancelled recurring payments to avoid Stripe charging donators when it wouldn't disperse funds. Now that Poast escaped the Kiwi Farms Payments Ghetto, Graf hasn't automatically reinstated the old monthly donations, so they're starting from 0 again.

They had hit the monthly goal with the Gabfugee donators before Stripe went down, and even more came over from Gab since. So maybe they'll rebuild all the way up again.

Graf furthers his software suite of shit nobody needs with an IRC server! This isn't what you're supposed to be doing if you're forced to grovel to your users for donations.

Alex Gleason and Graf have gotten into a little spat. While I don't have much context. I believe it's due to Alex mostly falling out of interest for the fediverse.


While I don't follow it that much. Alex and Graf (primarily Graf) have been fighting on their respective timelines for a few months now. But this is the most heated I've seen Graf get towards Alex.
The drinking is not helping
