We're introduced to the 4chan region, Fochun and it's Pokemon Professor, Stump. I'm kind of disappointed he's not following the tree nomenclature of Pokemon Professors. Stump is kinda referential, but I feel like it could of been better.
Since I'm going all in on this being Pokemon 4chan, I chose an a suitable name for a 10 year old entering the world of 4chan.
As for the Rival.
I didn't care for any of suggested names(and even as an 8 year old playing the games, I could cook up a more insulting name for the Rival than DICKS), so I continued with the theme, and decided this other 10 year old will be what is killing the Fochun region.
Now that we've established NEWFAG, I wanna take a step bag to the introduction before the introduction, for a sight gag.
- Uhhhhh
-Sure...
Ah, the Console Dating system of Pokemon games, this gives you an inclination of when at least this part of the game was made. The traditional free potion is in your computer. I always imagine I had it in there before having a Pokemon because I have a huffing problem.
-Oh good, my mother learned parenting from the TV, no wonder I'm running away from home at 10. What is she watching anyways?
I'm mainly going to include any bits I feel like the designers at least tried to make funny, but in this case I'm keeping it in cause I actually had to reload a save state to get it. After reading it once, the TV is turned off.
There is also a basement that's blocked off by this tree... I wonder if this is just an odd element or if there is something to it?
-I wonder if that's where my sister, TITSGTFO, the girl option, is held prisoner for not being selected.
We go out to /vp/ Town. It's very similiar to Pallet Town, two other houses and Prof. Stumps lab.
With a unpassable surfing Route 23 to the South
I'll be the judge of that. I do like the remix of the Pokemon theme for the opening screen at least.
The Pokemon Laboratory is pretty much a carbon copy of Oak's. The music is however a chiptune of the "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" theme. +1 on that.
NEWFAG isn't impressed with Stump's model of Pokedex... wait a minute...
- Ahhhh, I see what you did there. Seems like /vp/ is aware of their proclivities.
Of course Stump isn't there. Since this is starting out pretty much as a copy of Red, I'm sure we have to leave the town to trigger getting our pokemon.
Sure enough, also I like the portraits for important people's dialogue.
As the poll decided, we choose Arabomb as our starter. Decided to name him "GodIsGreat" just to be a little different from the predicable "AllahAckbar", plus it's 1 letter too long.
The one partial playthrough was with him, so I wouldn't of minded the other two.
- A suicide bomber Pokemon in a Nuzlocke, huh?
-You're gonna learn suicide moves aren't you? This is a Nuzlocke, so your a suicide bomber for reals, and I'm almost certainly going to use it if an appropriate moment arises.
-That's the spirit!
I'm not getting attached.
Considering they haven't seemed to have edited any event triggers at this point, no I never considered it an option.
Of course, since this is before Gen V, our Rival takes the Pokemon we are weak to, instead of the other way around. I don't know how many battle arena's are going to be like this, but I really do like the detail in the background with Stump watching us.
Well, fortunately I'm not wiping that early into the game. Only get 80 cents off the little pissant.
Here is GodIsGreat's stats after leveling up from the first Rival battle:
Careful nature means my Special Defense is up at the cost of my Special attack, possibly good for a Nuzlocke but not really in character for a arabic firecracker.
Next, we'll most likely deliver a package of drugs or something to Stump and get our first Pokeballs and the Pokedex, and see how long it takes for them to actually make the game seem different from Red(IIRC I don't think it's until after the third gym)
