"I refuse to use any site feature other than the bell icon": the thread
The problem isn't people not using other features other than the bell icon. The problem is removing from the user the convenience of watching the content they want and putting more obstacles from doing that. It seems to me Josh made an impulsive decision because a retard complained in the DM chain issue thread about reaction scores and notifications.

"I use reaction notifications instead of the watch thread feature because I refuse to use any site feature other than the bell icon" didn't have the same ring to it

Even if the watch thread feature was a perfect alternative with zero downsides (which isn't the case), folks just resent having their options taken from them, especially if a particular option was significantly more convenient and UI friendly.

You can still see the reactions on the posts you have made here: https://kiwifarms.st/account/reactions . It doesn't come with a push notification but it's still better than nothing.
Actually. If you have a smaller window. Like say if you're playing something that takes up almost all your screen - or browsing four seperate websites simultaneously, that option doesn't show up.

It's also ass setting up a new window on mobile JUST to see internet stickers.

Why the fuck does Bossmanjack wager $$ on coin flips instead of playing a skill based game like poker? Instant dopamine hit. Same concept applies to a cluster of colorful pixels. It will also change the way people post if I have to quote people vice versa to get a reaction from notifications.

People are dumb, lazy and won't do that. Null spergs alot about friction so I genuinely don't understand how he can make such a retarded decision. He even said in one recent stream about the donation page that if people have to click one extra page to make a payment, engagement drops off by something like 20%. Example of Web Storefront Friction
It would be different if the notifications bell never showed reactions before but my rat brain just wants to do 1-click on the bell and everything I was recently posting about is mostly there.

I do think that ratings and it’s instant gratification it might cause people to police their language, a bit too much worrying about getting top hatted or autistic stickers because you went a little bit on against the grain.
When I was complaining about how stickers were inexorably turning kiwis into dumb faggots like 4 or 5 years ago the response was always "dur stickers don't matter literally just ignore them". Yet I was fucking right and noticed a number of those same posters agree now and were the first to highfive Null after the change.
The intended purpose is one thing but you can't change the fact that people have the Reddit/Twitter feedback loop imprinted in their brains.

Like, boohoo for the people struggling with having to use a forum the way every forum used to work, but if this shit sticks it's going to be a great thing for the site.

I genuinely don't see what was wrong with simply calling stickerspergs faggots and moving on. We don't need to restructure the site to be more inconvenient for everyone just to try and stop a gaggle of retards (who were, at the absolute worst, an occasional annoyance) from being retarded. Hell, if their presence is such an unbearable menace that addressing their behavior with changes to the site is a must, why not just disable their sticker notifications and leave the rest of the site out of it?

I'm not talking about the obvious people who take it too seriously. I'm talking about the mass effect that such a prominent dopamine drip feature has on turning users into a boring hivemind.

I know everyone thinks they're immune, but most of you clearly fucking are not.

It is beyond optimistic of you to think stickers are why groupthink happens.

Forums have had reputation systems for decades, long before Reddit or Twitter existed. They led to spergouts like this all the time too, which were hilarious.
