I hate drawing hands and legs.

More of a sketch artist than a colorist. Rushed (Put no effort in) the shading, but I like the final result.

I dislike this art style but decided to experiment and mess it up. The sweats are fucking ridiculous lmao. speedpaint below for the sweaty reference

I took part Secret Santa 22 and I never got heard from who got my gift if they liked it or not. To be fair I also didn't thank my Santa despite the nice story I got because I didn't see the Showcase 2022 thread until I realized to search for it end of January and felt it was bit too late. I had wondered when the thread would be up because I enjoyed it last time quite alot but the site was extremely unstable at the time for me and just ended up missing that part of the exchange. So I don't have hard feelings or anything like that, I just show this to more people because I think it came out pretty nice.

Anyway I game across my SS22 while looking for something and felt this was as good time as any to share it. I put quite alot work in it because I enjoy drawing challenges that take me to something I wouldn't otherwise do and I needed something else think about than deep cleaning I was doing for Christmas. In this case I'm not big on monster designs but lovecrafting horror stood out from likes and dislikes as a fun starting point for Christmas pictures. I tried to do mix of a happy cartoony Christmas card with creeping horror. I immediately thought about a tentacle with a present but cthulhu felt bit overdone and too meme-y. So I decided go with another sea creature I could use because they are reoccurring element in Lovecraft. After looking alot pictures of jellyfish and I tool elements from multiple different ones to create my floating see trough mushroom.

Also I tried out something different how I do backgrounds by kinda tracing it. It's from a daytime photo I googled that I used for placements and sizes of many elements but didn't worry too much about accuracy or getting everything, it's a dark night after all. On purpose I made the characters from a flat side angle and the perspective more boxy to get it feel bit wrong and warped. I knew it could backfire and just look amateurish like a baby's first perspective but I wanted something that goes against soft snowy hills and the general roundness I see alot in traditional Christmas cards. I think the experiment was a partial success. I probably should have done the balcony differently but I'm quite happy how the windows and city silhouette in the background look.

For the life of me I can't do sketch with negative space. I go very hard on shadows and it ruins the composition entirely. Using Photoshop and Illustrator.

Sláine, drawn in my Hobonichi planner. I'll probably do a more finished piece for St. Patrick's Day but I want to share more of my sketches here.
