Borderlands 3's gameplay was great. I generally love Borderlands characters, but the issue is that they got zero personality in their own original game, then appear with personality (and often a cooler design) as npcs in the next. I kinda fear BL4 will be tiny tina, that siren bitch, gaige returning and some novelty robot guy. I mean, they could make a gremlin squad work in this day of vtubers primarily occupying that niche but we'll see.

3 actually--and thankfully, redeemed that trait quite a bit since the first game only had the Vault Hunters talk whenever they encountered loot or interacted with another player, while the second game only upped that by giving them more to say whenever they killed enemies or activated abilities. The characters actually interacted with NPCs with full dialogue in 3 and had other ways of delving into their personalities during events, so hopefully 4 finds a way to improve that trait just as much.

What’s the odds Randy Pitchford also has a poop fetish? Even in a PG-13 movie Eli Roth still inserted his poop fetish twice in the borderlands movie.
There are literal poop guns and a "poop" themed weapon skin in BL3, so I'd say those odds are pretty high.

He was probably even behind being able to pick up and fling shit at things in Duke Nukem Forever, now that you mention it.

I know this is more of a gearbox thing than just Randy, recently they released “Seekers of the Storm” for Risk of Rain 2 and through a patch for the dlc (not even the DLC) completely fucked up the game with bugs and glitches that weren’t there beforehand.

And the response from Gearbox at about it at pax

Hopefully it was worth rushing, knowing Randy he probably took funds from this and put it into Borderlands 4.

Edit: Jesus fucking Christ, Woolie is annoying the rest of the second video. Starts going too ham near the end of it when reading Hopoo’s response

Lionsgate and Gearbox have so completely given up on the Borderlands movie it's free up on YouTube without being copyright struck. Oopsie, looks like it finally got some kind of pushback after over a day up, it's privated but not deleted. Good thing I downloaded it already since it was too boring to finish last night. I will say they got the Borderlands LOOK right, if not much else storywise.

Randy is now comparing himself to The Beatles.

Randy Pitchford, Gearbox boss, has continued his odd yet entertaining thread of replying to just about anyone online who doesn't like what he has to say with long, confusing responses.

This time around, after someone pointed out the recent failures of both the Borderlands movie, which crashed and burned at the box office, and a Risk of Rain 2 expansion, which ended up being a bit of a train wreck, Pitchford decided to defend himself by comparing Gearbox to—and I'm completely serious here—The Beatles.

"I'm going to keep making stuff," Pitchford says in a Twitter reply. "I wish everything could be a hit, but that is not how it works. The greatest musical act of all time, The Beatles, had a 25% hit rate. I'm sure every song they recorded was done with love and commitment to the art and belief in the quality of their work. My favourite artists, performers, and entertainers have all made things I didn't like so much."

The Beatles released 213 songs (188 originals and 25 covers), 22 of which were singles, during their time together. The band has 18 number-one singles in the UK, second only to Elvis Presley, and 20 number-one hits on the Billboard Hot 100, the most of any artist. In terms of albums they released while the band was together, there are 14, 11 of which charted at number-one in the US.

Obviously, I don't think The Beatles' legacy is comparable to Gearbox games—certainly not the Borderlands movie. It's been a while since I played an enjoyable Gearbox game—Borderlands 3 was kind of fun, with entertaining characters and decent action, but it doesn't come close to my list of top 10 titles. I feel like Gearbox gives off more Nickelback vibes. You've got some decent hits in there (I defy you to tell me How You Remind Me isn't a banger), but a 'good band'? Eh, debatable. If I were to liken The Beatles to any games studio, then it would probably be Rockstar.

It probably won't shock you to find that I'm not the only one who thinks Pitchford's comparison is out of tune: "Hi, Randy," one player says in response. "When The Beatles released new songs, they didn't retroactively make their older songs significantly worse and/ literally impossible to listen to. They also didn't do this to other people's music. Hope this helps:)."

"It's cool," Pitchford continues, undeterred. "When artists have a miss, that's when they need fans the most to root them on so they are motivated to keep creating. I don't know if I will ever make anything again that you like, but wouldn't it be better for you to have that chance to decide than for artists to never create again after a marketplace miss?"

The Hoppo devs are now working for Valve.

The Beatles unleashed a revolution in rock music, have influenced thousands of musicians, and generally left a cultural impact that spans continents and generations and will likely be felt for many, many years to come. Randy Pitchford would have to sell his soul to like eight different devils if he wanted make something with a tenth of the quality and longevity of Sergeant Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band or Abbey Road, and even then he'd still find a way to fuck it up because that's his God-given "talent".

Randall apparently having another melty over criticism. Longtime Gearbox shill Mitsu expressed concern regarding BL4 marketing, suggesting that the publisher (2k Games) cut the marketing budget because the game has low projected sales. Randy responds in typical passive aggressive fashion, threatening to block Mitsu before ultimately deciding to mute him. Keep in mind that this Mitsu guy been shilling for gearbox since the bl2 days, and personally attended the movie premiere shit with Randy.

The most milquetoast criticism gets that reply, Jesus. Replying like a literal 14 year old girl instead of just logging off or just blocking/muting and moving on.

He could have written "I'm concerned for BL4 because it looks like complete generic ass and Gearbox hasn't made decent game in 10 years" and it would have been much more true. The little game footage that has come out looks really tepid and looks more like a poorly thought out mod for Borderlands 3 (which already looked like a mod for BLTPS) - just "trailer" stuff which are likely the "Active Skills" that will be on long cooldowns and the game will still be shooting huge HP sponges and being locked into a terrible story progression.

If BL4 was really going to be the "Best Borderlands Ever" - they'd have a lot more gameplay info for a game shipping in ~6 months rather then having the CEO myspace posting on Twitter.

Another thing to note is that Take Two Interactive owns 2K and Gearbox. Take Two will be publishing GTA 6 later this year and has very likely demanded that bl4 release before then. I think that the game is gonna be in a poor state on launch because of that alone.

Borderlands 3 was half baked when it got released and was about a couple years of updates and expansions until it became somewhat playable. That’ll be hilarious if Borderlands 4 is somehow even less baked than that :story:

I think there's a ton of reasons that BL4 is coming, primarily that 6 years is a long time between titles and that Borderlands 3 as well as Borderlands - The Movie were very badly received and the franchise needs a shot in the arm because a third bad release is going to be disaster for the IP. I imagine that Borderlands 3 fell short of sales expectations (minus Randy fleecing the fuck out of Epic Games) and that BL3 probably did worse on DLC sales then previous entries as well.

I agree they have forecasted projections that are very researched and I wonder if they're expecting BL4 to underperform but are hoping to sweep it under the "GTA6 made a trillion dollars" rug in the same financial period.

I think more important then the reasons they're going to launch would be the reasons that don't seem to be a factor, such as "is it ready". With not that long to go, your typical game journos/community shills should have already played it in some preview format/early demo instead of relying on two mediocre to bad Youtube trailers.

They need to stop pussy footing around and bring Handsome Jack back. The villains from 3 sucked, and Tales just brought Jack back. They did a prequel about Jack, and made a DLC ABOUT Jack.

It's obvious they regret killing him, you have the AI Jack from Tales and the fucking dude owned the company that made the revive machines.

This makes it sound like a heap of bullshit is going on behind the scenes and it is shaping up to be mega slop.

Jack is the only good thing to come out of Borderlands (and by extension, Anthony Burch). There's nothing that comes close to him in the entire series, when you mention the series, one of the first things that is mentioned is Jack and how memorable he is. If they don't bring him back fully as the villain, expect a DLC or questline dedicated to him, because Gearbox cannot let go of their only golden goose.

Also, I'm not sure if this thread mentioned Codehunters at all. It is an unpopular animation that someone at Gearbox (possibly Randy himself) saw and aped the style for Borderlands. There's even set pieces that Borderlands 1 and 2 would use. (Bus pulling up to a stop in the middle of nowhere, Fighting on top of a train.) These could all be a massive coincidence for all I know, but I've heard people make claims of plagiarism over this animation:

They absolutely stole it, look at Code hunters vs the original borderlands reveal.
