Artcow rcdart / Rory Cummings-Dise - Tranny Fetishist who Torpedoed a Potential Animation Career

Lol many of Rory's anatomical studies and realistic works are pleasing to the eye but almost every stylistic character she has ever made looks like absolute unappealing dogshit. I thought she would get better over the years of media silence but judging by the recent She-Ra DeviantArt trash her art's somehow worse than when she started. She clearly has (or had) the skill to make aesthetically passable stuff. How is she doing so bad? Is it intentional and she's hyping herself up for being 'subversive'?

Cringe lineup of all the bitches rory could never pull, not in a million years. Not much else to say here, except that her horny exaggerations of woman she finds ‘desireable’, give Robert Crumb a run for his money.

necroing the thread a little but wow Rory is a bittersweet lolcow now.

Her actually shutting her stupid mouth (or in this case stopping her fat-ish fingers from typing so much) and just spedning time honing her craft she paid a king's random to learn is respectful. Too bad it's not showing much for the noble effort. 🚬

And some sort of new art we haven't seen before. Only sharing one example because I couldn't be arsed doing it all. I'm not the greatest artist out there but I feel like what Rory has is problems when it comes to the shapes of characters and especially their faces, they feel flat? Odd? Inconsistent? I can't really tell but there's just something.

I agree. There is something. The unified muted color palettes help with the character's appeal at a glance. When you really look at each one, you can't help but see the common flaw among them: Rory draws the clothes as part of the figure, and not the figure wearing clothes. This is emphasized in the next picture:

Look at this shit! Each one of these characters reminds me of the infamous Tim Buckley clip of putting parts on his characters from a master file. Nothing on any of these designs looks like it was made to fit on them. Especially not the one in the top right corner.

There's no way calarts didn't teach Rory the basics of the fucking basics when it comes to art/animation which is the figure and it's clear shape language comes first and foremost. The clothing (if any) and accessories comes second. Maybe the bottom ones except for the 4th could be re-worked into something but the others are polly pocket anatomy bad.

I was looking through Cal Arts blogs and reminded of Rory's existence so I did a quick web search to see what was up. I figured since nobody has updated her thread in a while, I would post some of my findings from her website.

As you can see, Rory's aesthetic has devolved into something that reminds me of those cheesy Christopher Hart 'How to Draw Anime and Manga' guidebooks you find at craft stores.

At least the clothes look like they were drawn on second this time. I doubt they were but the illusion is there.

(I might be biased, though, as I've developed a strong dislike for how anime has influenced the current generation of artists in the animation industry. To me, it just looks incredibly tacky, regardless of the artist.)
You should. The ones who do that want to have some sort of......Ghibli with craptivist soapboxing that gains Harry Potter's cultural transcendence. And they want it so fucking bad it's embarassing how much they lack the skill to get it. The results are pretty lulzy though.

Here’s some stiff anatomy for you. I don’t think she really got anything out of those figure drawing courses. Maybe the purpose of them went over her head at the time, and it’s clear she hasn’t bothered to revisit the subject to improve the fluidity of her figures.

The point of tight clothes on a character is to emphasize the posing and anatomy. It really flexes the artist's skill level of how well or how weak their anatomy rendering can be. no shit rory's anatomy skill is weaker than a rolled-up newspaper as a weapon.

The outfits on the second pic, while dragshow (tacky) to the max, aren't that bad.

Here's some concept sketches of Rory's new original character, Blair White, in that Rory we've come to know and love post-Traptain America

>Blair White
>name of a tranny, looks of Ariana Grande

what an odd combo.

More ugly, unappealing character designs only a leftist would force themselves to appreciate... don't even get me started on the beady-eyed, anatomical nightmare on the left, next to Ben Stiller in ACDC themed drag.

Nothing makes sense in this "candid photo". The first one's pose and face, the second one's whole body, the third one's arms, and the fourth one's... everything. It looks out of place.

This one is reddit goyslop incarnate - its the cube shaped head that does it for me.

This design doesn't look like Rory at all. It looks like it was copied/stolen from someone else. Not saying it's good, just not typical of her usual stuff. Ironically more of shit like this would get her hired, not the drag stuff. and that smug face in the middle is giving me flashbacks to the same face drawn over a sketch of Spike from Cowboy Bebop at CN studios.

the "goth" character is also horribly unappealing. Mis piggy has potential but Rory doesn't know how to draw necks.
They both look like they get hourly botox injections. As a standalone drawing it's fine. But Rory's aim with all of these designs is animation. This shit would kill animators.

Bottom line: If Rory truly gave up social interactions online, she can be salvaged and useful to the industry that, while currently in flames, she wants nothing more than to be a part of. But her chances would increase if she dials back the drag obsession and actually grasps anatomy before exagerating it for cartoons. Doubt she will of course, she a lolcow for a reason but thats how I see it for now.

I never went to art school, so correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't traditional art—still lifes and figure drawing and anatomy and all that—hugely emphasized? I recall seeing some old sketches by Disney artists from the 50s, and they looked like they could be in a medical textbook.

Obviously the ability to reduce a figure to basic and appealing shapes for the sake of animation is a skill into itself, but surely the basics are still important?

This attitude reminds me a lot of how every hack fantasy author was hugely inspired by Tolkien, and fantasy became a slog of chosen ones and cursed objects in medieval Europe. Instead of looking to Tolkien, look to the things that inspired him: Arthurian legend and Norse sagas.

In that vein, look to what inspired the original anime creators—American cartoons and traditional Japanese paintings. The animators and designers at Ghibli are hugely skilled, and it's a massive ego to think that that skill can be achieved in four years at an increasingly poor reputation-ed college.

That is correct.

The two anatomy classes I took both had you do one thing first: sketch the skull and skeleton a few times. then sketch the naked figure a bunch (only public one-off drawing sessions have clothed models. private classes were always nude).

Depending on where you go, some art classes will make you learn the names of the bones and muscles as well as drawing them in the figure. Glen Keane famously did this on Tarzan for the movie's concept art since Tarzan's movements had to be dynamic and bold while also making sense for a man raised in the jungle to do without breaking or pulling something.

learn the rules to break them and all that jazz.

And the christian/religious iconography, which many don't have such beliefs in faith due to getting back at mommy and daddy for forcing them to go to church instead of staying home playing nintendo. Their religious belief extends to devil/demon iconography and no further. And that stuff is played out and literally fucking gay now. Much like Rory's beloved drag going from just gays just expressing a fetish to troons invading it trying to have "culture".

Horrifying, it's like VivziePop and Rebecca Sugar did a fusion dance, then got a scholarship to CalArts for being a poly system.
