Yes and no.

"No" in that Tolstoy always believed that art should serve a purpose, that there should be something of use that you get out of it, and a well written story that focuses on a particular subject can give you a very specific lesson. In that sense it's not exactly universal. One of the ending themes of Queer as Folk, for example, was that in many ways we are the same, and in many ways we are different.

"Yes" in that I've never had an issue seeing myself in characters who are different from me. I've easily seen parts of myself in both male and female roles, as I'm sure most of us can, regardless of sexual orientation. And in many cases a story works more in the world of symbols, as Jung would describe, and that a love interest could symbolize all love interests, for example. The hero with a thousand faces... Ect

It's funny because on websites like here and 4chan you'd say "tranny janny" in a mostly joking context. However the more I learn about reddit the more I start to wonder how many of their admins/mods really are butthurt tranny jannies.

While GC aligned, some of these were not hate subs in the slightest. Of the ones I was familiar with:

This was an anti-hate sub that collected screencaps of "choke on my girldick terf" type comments.

For actual detransitioners. Didn't try to push anyone to detrans, just support.

While probably the most controversial, they collected news articles to show that MtF commit crimes like men (e.g. much more sexual and physical abuse) and how this is distorting female crime rates, which is then used against women ("women sexually abuse at the same rate as men!"). They also showed men pretending to be MtF to commit crimes in women's spaces.

Damn women not falling in line and sucking our girl dicks! Can't have that on reddit. Other people might stumble upon these things and decide not to transition, or decide to detransition! Or even worse, might start questioning us in general! Can't have that.
