Death Letter Blues
This song is a cover of a cover. Originally a traditional song, the blues musician Son House made his arrangement famous in 1965. Jack White later made a rock version on his second album "De Stijl", which was for a long time one of my favorite songs. This version is something I thought of and recorded in the span of a couple of hours using my cheap low-grade equipment. It is not perfect but I added my take on it.
I got a letter this mornin'
What do you reckon it read
It said the gal you love is dead
I got a letter this mornin'
What do you reckon it read
Said hurry hurry
Cause the gal you love is dead
Well I packed up my suitcase
I took off down the road
When I got there she was
Layin' on the coolin' board
I packed up my suitcase
And I took off down the road
When I got there she was
Layin' on the coolin' board
It must've been ten thousand people
Standin' round the burying ground
I didn't know I loved her
'till they began to let her down
I didn't know I loved her
'till they began to let her down
There must've been ten thousand people
Standing' round the burying ground
Oh yeah
Well I folded up my arms
And I slowly walked away
I said farewell honey
I think I'll see you on judgement day
I said farewell, farewell honey
I think I'll see you on judgement day
