Oh God, this fucking movie. I've actually sat down and watched it twice, and I'm convincing my kinda-girlfriend to sit down and watch it with me so we can riff on it.
I wrote a full review of it once about two years ago. Let me pull out some of the more interesting parts:
* The guy was a hairdresser and real estate salesman who wanted to break into Hollywood. He figured the best way to do this would be to make a direct-to-video film. Only problem is that not only did he have no budget, he insisted on doing everything himself: he's credited as director, producer, executive producer (don't ask how that works), writer, music director, editor, cinematographer, casting director, and lead actor.
* It was filmed on a Sony VX2000, a camcorder that achieved most of its prominence in the early 2000s by skaters. It's perfectly fine for home movies, but for any kind of professional film? There's ways to make an iPhone look good with proper lighting, settings, and framing. But not a VX2000. It doesn't help that the movie seems to exclusively use natural lighting, rather than any kind of lighting rigs. There's one scene where Sam wanted to shoot a dark bedroom with the lights actually turned off, which means that Ben moving around is basically black on black motion. The Youtube copy of this film includes annotations by the uploader saying exactly what's going on. Also, the film has zero camera equipment beyond a tripod. And zero audio equipment beyond the camera microphone, which makes the film a pain to listen to with how terrible the sound quality is.
* Sam just used whatever he could film of planes taking off for the couple's trip to Vermont for a gay wedding. The first one is I think an Alaska Airlines plane (clearly does not go from LA to Vermont), but the second is a FedEx cargo plane.
* The short little gunfight at the end. Victor has his own gun (a painted water pistol) and Arthur has a gun (I think an airsoft Beretta 92) that was acquired earlier in the film. Problem is, the guns end up not only randomly switching owners right before the final scene (with Arthur pulling Victor's gun from the drawer and Victor having the Beretta), but the guns constantly change hands during the shootout. I mean, that goes beyond continuity errors into complete mental retardation.
