on tumblr in the godless time of 2016-2018, "kin doubling" (delusionally believing you are a fictional character, when your friend also delusionally believes they're the same fictional character) was such a problem that there was online harassment campaigns and even physical assault cases at anime conventions stemming from it.

I remember seeing all these "Do not follow me if you are kin with x because I am too". Like you'll break their delusion if they read about their fictional husbando boinking someone else. Yet I also saw a few people that were open to discussing how their husbando was different from another's double. Maybe they got off on it. I saw a few Sephiroth yumes discussing how their Sephiroth was this or that compared to another's. I guess it's kind of like talking about your boyfriends with your friends. But these people seldom have friends and their boyfriends are pure fiction.

While I was screwing around and looking at some of these SplatSource accounts, I found that in his "Original AU," his self-insert character's love interest is
Side note, is it an autism thing to capitalize the first letter in every word? He might not be ESL (Ontario, Canadia, from his Steam) but it looks like he only learned English from titles of cartoons and movies. It's similar to how other autists I've seen online type text.

I'm not sure what label this falls under, probably self/pro shipping. Anyway, about 2 or so years ago, I was following this lolcow on tumblr, Lily Orchard. Their mtf wife, Mikaila, started flirting with this other person called @Trashyourash at the time.
I take a cursory glance at this Ash person's blog and find this:
Yeah in case your eyes don't work, that's the abusive older brother from Ed Edd n Eddy.
Subsequent visits to this blog revealed more bizarre self shipping art with equally abusive male characters.
However now this blog is gone, and in my ignorance I forgot to archive it. I can't find where this chick went, which is a shame because I REALLY wanna see more of her weird ass self shipping art. There's a backstory to this I just know there is. I can only sort of find a papertrail of people that reposted some of their tamer art on tumblr. Alas, I failed in my duties as a farmer.

Hey great work OP, I’m surprised this community didn’t have a thread till now, I planned on recommending some material that could be added or posted about but it’s all been mentioned by other farmers (The sephirot girl, Sonic passion, Randy girl etc), outside of that as I’ve known people who were part of this community in recent times the best places to look for cows/information would be the X (twitter) side of things and the subreddits, as I don’t use X nor am I part of this community/fandom I’m unable to properly show which hashtags or accounts are most well known but when it comes to reddit some subs that could be worth checking out would be r/Fictosexual and r/FictoLove.
To give a slight summary of the creation of these subreddits: r/Fictosexual was created as a bit of an offshoot of r/Waifuism, one that was meant to be more inclusive but not a copy of it as explained on the welcome post (Link/Archive), then a couple of years later someone proposed the creation of an actual copy of r/Waifuism but inclusive (Link/Archive) and that’s how r/Fictolove was born.
Going into other matters, as other users have very well explained there is some overlap between Fictosexuality, Selfshipping/Yumeshipping and Waifuism, but something to keep in mind is that there are enough differences between them to warrant the existence of this thread, mainly due to the “rules” of waifuism and the origin of these communities, while waifuism originated in IB’s (mostly 4chan, later 8chan and Tohno chan) during the late 2000’s, selfshipping was born in old forums (such as sonic passion) and DA/Tumblr, not only that but selfshipping is more of an offshoot of the shipping community, so even if all of these communities definitely overlap as the core idea is the same (being in love with a fictional character) the way its expressed, what’s okay to do, the users themselves etc are different enough.

That is a whole other can of worms, yeah.
The notorious "Poke-Madhouse" featured both Lily's obsession with an uncharacteristically violent Gardevoir but also her own strained one-sided relationship with her spouse, who was illustrating the comic at the time.
Real people btw, that is a healthy dynamic if I've ever seen one.

It's also said by Courtney herself that Lily allegedly got banned from their Library for printing out too much Gardevoir Porn, she also has a Fankid with this Gardevior, referred to as a crypid. Its safe to say she selfships with G.

She self-ships with her Gardevoir, but in the most recent comics her character (referred to as CLily, for Comic!Lily) and G have decided they have a sisterly relationship. Yes, you've read that right, after G having had a crush on CLily for years, and CLily actually reciprocating, with CLily kissing G on the lips, and them having a biological child, they have decided they are sisters.
For the uninitiated, Lily has been accused of raping her sister, Courtney, and has written an extensive work, Stockholm, detailing several pedophilic and/or incestuous relationships, which Lily ardently denies. I am sure this has nothing to do with her retconning CLily and G as being sisters after years of teasing a will-they-won't-they, however.

Ah, I was wondering why I kept getting Autistic reactions, thank you for the clarification. It is true the Lily Orchard/Jerry Peet thread is odd by KF standard, with a fair number of people (myself included) having gotten used to using Jerry's preferred pronouns and avoiding infighting about it. I did forget it's not something that's done outside of his thread. Shame on me for following a tranny's degeneracy.
I keep forgetting how fucking ugly Jerry is. A face not even a sister would love, evidently.

My favorite part of this is that isn't the first G&W selfshipper I've seen either. I'm curious what any of them see in him that made him The One (or, at least, one of the ones), because my theory is it comes down to some weird essentialist nonsense.
The selfshippers/etc. who latch on to characters—often male—that don't merely boil down to one or two essential traits, but are just those essential traits are really fascinating to me. It's like they're attracted more to archetypes than the characters that embody them, which makes it really funny when they find the most distilled possible examples of it to (ficto)wife-up. I think it's the only way some of the truly bizarre selfship pairings end up appearing.
I have no clue what the G&W selfshippers see in him, but to use a different example: Consider what a teacher character embodies. That's a pretty automatic authority figure, for one, so there's a pre-established power dynamic. Depending on whether they're a saint, or a huge piece of shit, or anything between those two extremes, you could probably tack on a sizable list of additional traits. The character could be a mix, too. Maybe they had edge to them that's diminished over time? Maybe they're kind, but still assertive? Maybe they've got a funny voice, or they're strange in a way that's funny? Maybe they run after you with a ruler as a looming threat of punishment?
There was an entire era where droves of people had the hots for this fucking guy. I still see people selfship with him whenever I get curious about Baldi's Basics shit once every couple of months. The things selfshippers manage to see that gets them into characters this (no pun intended) basic is, again, really fascinating.
