Serial Experiments Lain

That's hypothesize what would a modern-day Lain reboot be like if it was made by Netflix and directed by that 'jeet who did the new DMC "anime".

What is it with trannys loving this anime so much? I never understood it, the message the show gives is pretty anti-trans. And if I’m not mistaken the writer is a right-wing conspiracy theorist.
if I had to guess, they probably think it reflects their rejection of reality and their desire to live on the internet instead where they can pretend to be a girl

I believe Lain is supposed to be a representation of God, of how all of our conscious experiences come together to form a godlike being. A representation of collective thought/experiences. In the earlier episodes Lain doesn't understand how there are so many different versions of herself with vastly different personalities, but by the end, her true self remains. She eventually consolidates herself into a singular being. For a normal person, this is impossible.
Collective consciousness. It's also how some people have described "the light" you may see when you die. We're all one and stuff like that. It's been 15-20 years since I'm seen Lain. But I recall some explanation about how early man could naturally tap into collective consciousness but we lost it over time.

So...piecing all this together, it sounds as if the show cribs heavily from Gnostic themes of God/the original Creator being splintered into fragments which end up being humankind, with the ultimate goal of existence is for those with "gnosis" (special knowledge) of what reality actually is (a prison) to transcend their limited state by realizing themselves to be God, and merging together back into the Divine.

Yes, I know about the Demiurge; this is just a basic description.

Like I said, there's a lot of weird new age semi science stuff than so much of traditional occult stuff
Basically everything from Art Bell except Bigfoot

My guess, beyond the idea of controlling who you are online, comes down to Lain being aloof/autistic, she's also basically a shut-in NEET. Very trannycore.

"OMG SHE JUST LIEK ME"

You'll have to keep in mind that all the troon fans of Lain were already terminally-online and/or were computer geeks, all of which whose brains have long been broken and so when they started balding, they became trans. Unless you can find an OG troon who was a fan long before the 2000s, modern troons literally declare everything they touch "theirs".

It's the same with the When They Cry fandom, troons didn't used to exist until suddenly they did. But Ryukishi might've been pandering to these weirdos at some point later down the line while working on Umineko for all we know.

It's important to remember that Japanese right wing stuff doesn't line up 100% with American right wing stuff. But, yeah. Konaka is less of a conspiracy guy and more just not into loud, obnoxious terminally-online Americans projecting their shit onto him.

Trannies should check out the adaptation of Devilman Lady he wrote. It's got a scene that I know they'll just love.
Turns out one of the characters is a tranny and she surprises the lesbian protagonist with her cock at the end. And rapes her.

I like it a lot. The concept of human connection is driven home best by her sister "Disconnecting" from the world around here. Very evocative show.

Plus it's short. I can't stand animes that drag on for way too long.

Lain came out at a time when the Internet was just becoming mainstream, and some folks were savvy to have the foresight to say "Don't let this take over your life, it's not real, it's just a tool", and then kids began to grow up on the Internet years later because no one ever fucking listens to the skitzos for their grains of wisdom.

Seriously, the episode that shows kids playing an online game but in the real world because they literally cannot differentiate between reality and the Wired is harrowing because that shit happens now. It was almost incomprehensible to think about back then, so it was a twinge of psychological horror as a result. Now it's just downright horror.

Konaka J. Chiaki really and truly needed to make more anime, his outlook on the digital world (not just a Digimon reference) is so fascinating and so very Y2K in nature.

It darkly amuses me how in the show this guy was looked on with horror from the bystanders and now its seen as way cool future so many want.

She looks fucking retarded. I might watch it eventually just to give it a chance.

No, it's been almost 20 years since the idea started floating around and (despite Konaka saying that he has most of the funding already) he hasn't shown anything new about the show. It also underwent an almost complete rewrite which makes this a Ship of Theseus situation
Well, apparently it will start production this year and could release in 2027 but I don’t know the validity of this email, could be just bait or Konaka is just lying to get people to stop bothering him about the series.

The Quest 3 is dirt cheap. I'm surprised I haven't seen a vagrant outside a McDonalds playing Beat Sabre yet. As someone who uses VR a few days a week to play table tennis and a handful of other games, I can see how people can use VR to dissociate from reality.

Obviously VR Chat is a prime example of those who have given up on reality and are investing their emotional energy into their furry chatrooms.

For sure, I've played with VR before and its fun.

Once VR and AI generation is merged, its going to be good bye real world for so many people.

That was a learning experience, boys. Something we've all gone through.

I forgot to add:

>This chick would cut her hair like Lain and declare Lain was her favorite show to masturbate to.
