Diseased Shippers, Anti-Shippers, and Shipping Wars - When fictional characters fucking each other is a political statement

These dumb mother fuckers in the MHA fandom are freaking out because Bones added a scene of Izuku and his faggot abuser hanging out and training. View attachment 5944344View attachment 5944345View attachment 5944346View attachment 5944349
Bungo Stray Dogs also has a toxic shipping community. What is it with anything Bones gets involved with and cancer fanbases? The most popular ship, soukoku, is best described as fujos thinking Chuuya and Dazai have aggressive hate sex every night. At best, they're frenemies. Shin Soukoku has basically the same idea behind it.

Almost all the cancer comes from those two ships. Personally, I prefer the ship Moby Dick. Dazai/Eiffel Tower is also quite wholesome.

That said aggressively toxic shipping community would probably explain why Bungo Stray Dogs has the 5th most amount of fics in the Anime/Manga category in AO3:

Patimaporn.
And I tought South American have the most retarded sounding names.
Definitely a Thai thing, I was just reminded people in A&N were laughing at the name of a "relational and sexual communication" professor who's a big-boobied Thai lady because "lol porn". All I can think of now is how the Pokémon Company were able to accommodate for Thai versions since Gen 5 when they began filtering out bad words even if they were part of a compound word or name.

But hoooooly shit this woman is in her 30s and still draws and acts like that? :stress: Have we found ourselves a new Artcow?

This is technically very old news, but the hilarity has been going basically non stop since the February, so...

For 27 years the FF7 fandom has been in a fight between people who think Cloud wanted to be with and got with Tifa, and people who think he wanted Aerith instead. Some insist he still ends up with her somehow even though she's dead.

In FFVII Rebirth, the middle part of the FF7 Remake project, Tifa got a near kiss and an actual kiss, while Aerith got holding hands.
The cope and denial from Clerith shippers has been running almost non stop for actually longer than the game is out because the Tifa kiss got leaked, and shows no sign of slowing down. If anything they are doubling down on their insanity. I don't know if it's as amusing to anyone outside the fandom, though.

I’d say that’s backwards. Having played the game, Cloud has a non-optional expression of interest in Aerith even if you get the Tifa kiss (which is also not-canon as per the devs). And even in the kiss scene he expresses dismay that Aerith must still like Zack.

Meanwhile, when the trailer that foretold Rebirth’s focus on Clerith dropped some Clotis ended up harassing the devs on twitter.

You’ve fallen for some cope. If you were around when Rebirth first dropped it was Clotis who were upset, and were upset again when the ultimania dropped later on, and eventually they settled on various degrees of denial about Rebirth’s intent. Cleriths were happy. In no small part because the kiss was leaked and they could prepare for the worst.

Personally? On my fandom corners I see Cloud/Tifa fans gushing a lot about the content they get, whereas Cloud/Aerith fans whine and screech against Tifa near nonstop. I guess your fandom space is VERY different than mine...

On another topic, Boku no Hero Academia / My Hero Academia is riiiight about to finish, and two/three spoilers have come out. . . It seems SOMETHING is up with Midoriya and Uraraka. . .

Like Ceiling Kitten said, that's not how things appear when I take a look at the general fandom spaces at all. I saw that one person made a threat but that was before the game dropped and no one seemed to support that person at all.
Since it dropped the CT side has been enjoying the date kiss as a bonus no one was expecting and looking forward to part 3 while the CA side has been doing their damndest to make excuses for it 'not counting' even though each date is supposed to be in character if not necessarily continuity. That and a lot of hate against Zack for some reason. Or trying to ship him with Tifa.

The Cloti vs Clerith war is a little nuanced. FF7 Rebirth has multiple moments that cater to both ships, and there's been salt/denial over Tifa and Aerith respectively ever since the OG game. Though Cleriths are particularly infamous for also having a hate boner for Zack, either acting like he doesn't exist and/or downplaying his significance to Aerith.

Pre-release, the trailers for Rebirth were quite biased towards Clerith and its shippers were obviously excited. Once the Cloti kiss got leaked, they huffed an insane amount of copium and kept insisting that it was faked. The copium continued when the rest of the dates got revealed and it turned out Aerith didn't get a kiss of her own. But yes, the dates aren't canon; the devs have stated they're just meant to be fun little bonuses and don't actually affect the story. Doesn't stop the fandom from sperging out about them.

For roughly the first half of the game, I'd say it caters more to Cloud and Tifa. Even if you disregard the date, there's a scene where they nearly kiss in Gongaga but get interrupted by an eavesdropping Yuffie and Cait Sith (who were hoping they'd do it). The latter half focuses a lot more on Cloud and Aerith, with them going on a non-optional date in one of the last chapters. There's also the fact that the role of Rosa in Loveless is technically "meant" for Aerith due to both how she wields a staff and Aerith's followup song (heavily implied to be about Cloud) that she performs regardless.

Basically, both sides are happy and salty for different reasons. The Cloti kiss was an infamous and lulzy meltdown moment though.

Once again I regret not replying sooner. Reassurances have gone out. Your testimonies can easily be construed as "discoursing" in bubbles.

I linked a prominent example of shippers melting down against a vague one... one which should seriously call into question the narrative of Clerith shippers being unhinged and causing good drama. Which was the thesis of the original post.

Personally you guys sound like you have a dog in the fight. If shippers being unruly was what you cared most about that would be much more satisfying content to look into. So I doubt anything would change your minds.

My dog is that I don't think Cloud and Aerith's feelings were fake or insubstantial, which is the actual prevailing opinion you get from Cloti and Zack/Aerith shippers. And I think that's obviously the argument you guys are trying to present. And literally that is the most shippertarded argument of all, regardless of whatever grievance you have elsewhere like on reddit or wherever.

I can (now) tell you’re trying to be very fair but I don’t think this is accurate: the devs were asked about the Tifa date when they said this. And have previously indicated the OG Aerith date, which the new one closely adhered to unlike the other options with their original incarnations, was canon then. And they include Aerith's new date in the Main Narrative section of the new Ultimania. This was all enough to make /v/, which is heavily in favor of Tifa, capitulate on entertaining her as any kind of alternative for Rebirth. They simply expect, and I do too, that part 3 will be for her in the same vein.

I am talking about Cleriths going from "We want a kiss please give us a kiss!" to "Kissing isn't romantic on the first date, in fact, if you kiss on the first date it's a sign that it's just a fling" and "He kissed Tifa because he was Jealous because he thought Aerith still had feelings for Zack."

That's the level of cope and seethe in the fandom right now.

Also what do you mean by "part 3 will be for her in the same vein." I can't tell which her you mean.

There are scenes of Cloud almost kissing Aerith but letting nerves or awkwardness get the better of him. Some of these were in the trailer and that's why Cleriths wanted a kiss. Totally reasonable explanation for this pattern you see. And again, one of these dates is canon and isn't the end of its ship's narrative. And one of those points, Cloud's uncertainty about where Aerith's heart belongs, is a story beat in the game.

There isn't a positive spin for Clotis harassing devs over said trailer, or getting mad at the guy doing Ever Crisis for calling Aerith the main heroine. These are all real examples of them letting their shipping opinions massively bias them, and it literally put them at odds with developers.

I think you guys have just read everything wrong. I suspect you guys don't read Clotis being resentful and unpleasant toward Aerith herself as seething, which went up after Rebirth and doesn't fit the claim that they feel elated at all. And I suspect you read Cleriths not respecting Cloti arguments as seething. Which also went up but does fit the claim that they feel elated and have elected to be dismissive of their rivals.

Why is this surprising? There was never going to be a gay romance in a mainstream ten-year-old shounen series. Fujoshits deserve getting aneurysms from all the screeching they do whenever their gay ships get shot down.

It seems the one who “has a dog in this fight” is you, rather than me or @LoverofPi. Because you’re acting EXACTLY like lots of the people we mock in this thread.:story:

If MHA was a shoujo or josei manga, I could see BKDK having a more serious chance. Heck, if it was a seinen story, maybe it could happen too.

But this just ain’t it. And the BKDK fans might be on their way to be the new NaruSasus or Klancers/Sheithers: incredibly bitchy and entitled m/m shippers who delude themselves into thinking their m/m OTP MUST be canon or the author is an ICKY HOMOPHOBE.

The people you mock here make direct arguments using the source material? Pressing ❌ on that one. I suspect they're more the type to just say opposing points aren't worth listening to, and exist in a bubble like the one I think you've already described. Which is like you, and you specifically.

I can list various points in my favor, and I suspect I should:

I've played the game. I don't think you guys have. That's why my posts discuss the merits and yours do not.
I already volunteered what my stake/position was, contrary to the claim I'm hiding it. And it's a far less shipperheaded position than you seem to have.
I posted an actual shipper meltdown that's inherently more remarkable.
I confess I have nobody to dickride me, you have me beat there, but I don't need it.
But also @LoverofPi says he's "just describing people changing their positions", which I haven't done at all because I don't take the hardline position either way. So even the dickriding isn't that good.

Anyway, Tifa gets metaphorically pumped and dumped unless you just ignore Aerith in addition to pursuing Tifa herself. The reasonable explanation is that she's more popular and so her content gets more fandom content. But if you play the game she's obviously not the focus, hence why there's the narrative dissonance if you go for her.
