Have you seen what the work situation is like for young people out there right now? It takes two people working full time to pay rent on any place that would be suitable for raising a kid in, or to get a mortgage for the same. Basically, the counterpoint to what you say is that older parents are much more likely to be financially stable and therefore have time for their kids. Especially if it's their first and by implication this is something they've been working towards being ready for. Compare and contrast with a couple in their early twenties. Having more energy doesn't help when all that energy goes to the gig economy.

Really, all of this is such broad strokes that I'm not sure it's useful to generalise. Yes, older parents are less likely to know what a skibidi toilet is. Whether or not that holds back a child, is another matter. I also don't think it is worthwhile to generalise about autism. You could say a mother over 40 has 400% the chance of her kid having autism. But if the autism rate is 1 in a 1000 and it's just become 4 in 1000, would that stop you having a kid?

It absolutely is worth wild generalising. I work with the disabled and infirmed, and there is a specific trend that keeps popping up -- the age of the parents.

Would I stop myself from having kids if I didn't already have them by 40? Yes. Because I think it's fundamentally both retarded and selfish to gamble the potential suffering of your children for your own inability to have children at a healthy age. It's normally the father than correlates to increased risk of autism with age.

That sounds like a reason to change the economy and how society operates, not to justify it and continue this increasing trend of birth defects and environmental related ailment.

Shoe is barely in to her 30s though so I don't really think it applies to her. She's not in an especially high risk category age range. It's only really a concern if she has more children in the future.
