Spoiler: my oh-so-important perspective as a desisting SJW

I've been a part of these LGBTQ + mentally ill + fannish online spaces for a while now. So long, in fact, that even in wanting out of them, I wanted to find validation. These spaces will convince you that everything you do is extremely important, and that you cannot disengage from something without having a moral reason why.
I still hate to distance myself from these spaces, because there's so much beauty and talent that comes of it! As stupid as it is, the above artwork is gorgeous! The colors, compositon, and character design are amazing. That's not to be said of every artwork in this thread, of course, but from the people that hold just the right amount of deviancy and don't care about making their art soooo diverse or moral or whatever, amazing things are created.
I think this happens not despite, but because these people take things so seriously. What they express in their work is genuinely how they view the world, because their personal narrative is so warped. Anyone else remember the trend where people would draw their favorite characters holding Palestinian flags and watermelons, as a form of protest? To any moderately sane onlooker, these drawings were tasteless, like they were bringing an actual tragedy down to the same level of seriousness as roleplay. But that's just it. They take media as seriously as, if not moreso than, real life.
They think that by being in the online spaces they're in, they're fighting some grand battle against an evil enemy. Or that they're the awesome-looking evil enemy with claws and fangs, and that everyone should be afraid of their power. Its the reason why people with actual lives more often depict themselves as something ugly looking or silly, because they don't attach their ego to it.

This is what I did. I ignored my real-world competency, and indulged myself in edgy music, imagining myself killing my enemies and taking over the world, fully convinced that I was a twisted cycle path and that and the world was against me. I forget exactly what knocked me out of it, but as I came to realize just how unserious all of this was, I stopped liking my old music. I stopped liking the same art, games, and other fiction. Genuinely it was like flipping a switch.
Fantasy is important, it is necessary for us to stop paying attention to how shitty this world is sometimes and to indulge ourselves in a more pleasant world. But escapism is a tool to help you face the real world. When you cannot bear to live in the real world, having a cool outfit in Roblox feeds your ego, and you think people not taking you seriously is the biggest problem in the world. None of this shit is important. You (I) dont need to feel obligated to give it your precious time.

Anyways, thread tax. Someone on Tumblr found out that the creator of an Undertale AU shipped an aged-up version of their underaged character with Sans. The people in the replies act like they'll get arrested for enjoying it now.

This is another extension of it, too. I'd dare say it's autistic, which I know gets tangled up in the childishness and is hard to separate, but when you come down to it this is just what autistic people and children do; they get super invested in cartoons and media and treat it as if it's as important as anything in real life, even when it isn't. There's another trend that stems from this, where people who are otherwise powerless feel like the only thing they can "do" as praxis is to consume only morally pure media, to only make morally pure media, thus it feeds the obsession and conflation of media and irl issues. It's an ouroboros that makes Sonic fetish art.
But anyway, no worries on being a "desisting SJW," I'm sure a lot of us were SJWs or adjacent at some point, you don't really become an artist without at least brushing up against that in the community. Think of it less like an identity you have to formally denounce and more of a phase you were in that you can grow out of, you can learn from it and continue forward, and you don't have to let it define you. It's all good!

Is this not basically the exact same premise as One-Punch Man? Well, not identical per se but extremely fundamentally similar. "Overpowered superhero beats everyone instantly, tries to find an actual challenge."

It's a childish mindset tbh, and I mean that in the literal "thing a child would say" way. I think we're all there at some point or another in our lives, but the problem is when these folks don't grow out of it and you end up with 30 year olds still acting like they're 12.

It blows my mind how the stupid and childish politics I grew out of at like age 15 still infests the minds of grown adults and directs their entire worldview to this day. These are people with jobs and responsibilities who are somehow unable to mature in this one specific and obvious way.

Then, the thread was so retarded. Highlight: someone said the Japanese police system isn't as fucked up as the American police system. Nigga both are just quite as bad. Japan's justice system is guilty until proven innocent. There was this guy in Japan who was literally jailed until he was in his 80s because he was falsely accused. There's also Nobuhiro Watsuki who made Rurouni Kenshin who was caught with lots of child porn and was given just SOME MONTHS in prison. Junko Furuta's murderers got released despite all the torture they did to that poor girl. I don't really see a huge difference. If they truly cared about social justice, there are more people out there ALL OVER, no matter how perfect or happy the country may seem, suffering from an unjust system, whether its the cops, healthcare, taxes, president, royalty, whatever. This is not a question of who's better or worse - this is a question of flawed systems. In fact, let's not use the term "bad" or "good" because this is a gray area and there's no such thing as perfect society. Everything will have cracks and some people are just assholes, no matter how "effective" the rehabilitation systems are.


ACAB people disturb me. If you want all people in a profession that is supposed to promote order primarily gone, then I fear you more than the cops because only God knows what you would really want to end up doing without them around.
