I went from a 1080p plasma (one of the last models) to a top of the range panasonic 55 inch 2022 4k oled, and 100% can tell different in res. If you go for a cheaper 4k model, then not hard to find older 1080p TVs that look better, mean my old Plasma would be better than them.I've had a 4K TV since 2017 and I really can't tell the difference at normal sitting distance -- mind you it's a sane human sized 49inch TV not a massive 70inch plus one. But once you get good anti aliasing how much can you really, really tell even with a huge TV?
I buy physical movies and I don't bother buying 4K blu rays because they seem absolutely pointless.
However, when it comes to HDR, game consoles still can only do HDR not HDR 10+ or DV, and many games still don't know how to correctly use HDR, so no way making the most. LCD and OLED based TV still don't match CRT or even Plasma, when it comes to motion resolution.
Edit: Turns out Xbox does have DV support for streaming and on some level for gaming, so was off on that, but unsure the level of support it has but that is more on devs and licensing fees than the console it's self.
