I don't think Tom even looks at PG threads tbh, they don't have all the info to spoonfeed him. Once it gets completed and moved to a big boy forum, then all bets are off.

I kinda hope that happens. Just judging by his audience the people that start playing SS13 would absolutely only do it to fuck with people. That's pretty much the only new players you see now anyways. You look at any servers public bans and they're 90% evaders.

Take what I have with a grain of salt since it's mostly anecdotal.

. First one being what happened from Lifeweb, and how its codebase grew into Rogue Town (on its own accord, fairly okay) and Ratwood Keep (the degenerate ERP one). Ratwood Keep's got a plethora of degenerate skeletons in its closet, from having naked child/teenage sprites to internal drama with furries, the server itself splitting again, and so forth. Worth a deep dive if anyone's more informed.

A small correction, Lifeweb's codebase has not turned into anything, since nobody has ever gotten access to it. Roguetown is a fork of TGstation from around 2019, repainted to look like a Lifeweb clone.

Name: Pieter-Jan Briers
Birth Year: 2000
PJB is Space Station 14's lead developer and, more importantly, the one with the final say as he holds all the keys. He's a strange man of contradictions; his entire identity is about being trans but his github remains "Pieter-Jan Briers." He went from a 4chan freeze peach guy to the most insane Tumblr takes. He freaks out when people call him mentally ill but proudly plasters all his diagnoses on his blogs and profiles. He has a 10+ year history in Space Station 13, going back to /vg/station where he is remembered for being a very good programmer and a belligerent retard. PJB's history can be broadly divided into 3 eras.

ERA 1: /VG/STATION ( 2014 - 2018 )
PJB made his first contribution to /vg/station, the last bastion of 4chan culture in SS13, on November 18, 2014. This means he was 14 years old at the oldest. He was quickly promoted to maintainer and went on to make 300+ more PRs. It may have never even began for him, getting involved in the /vg/ community so early. This is my weak point as I was not a /vg/ player at this time and have little insider knowledge. PJB was apparently given an intermediary between him and the rest of the community due to his inability to communicate, and also "mentored" by freaky older men who make up the rest of that server. Note that /vg/station had a rule against underage users and they chose not to enforce it for PJB. I haven't heard of any political spergouts from this era, only game design.

ERA 2: EARLY SS14 ( 2018 - 2021 )
PJB slowly spent less and less time on /vg/, and picked up a goon-led remake of SS13. It was quite barebones but PJB obviously managed to get it over the finish line. The seeds of the later mental decline were sown here. He worked on this with a mixture of 2 distinct groups of people; people like Swept or GlassEclipse who were, well, 4channy and would stay that way, and people who would later troon out. At this point he does start to have some political spergouts in SS13 coderbus but he's like a room temperature freeze peach guy.

His lashing out is directed towards SS13 and rival projects, talking about how much better SS14 is. Unitystation, the main SS14 competitor, eventually gets sick of him and bans him.

This era comes starts drawing to a close in 2021 when, after several of his friends troon out, they start whispering in his ear that people like Swept, i.e. centrists who share opinions with 99% of the human population, are evil nazis who need to be purged. The chuds get purged, you can no longer say "retard", etc. It's not totally insane yet, it basically just gets redditified here.

ERA 3: OFF THE DEEP END ( 2022 - NOW )
At the start of this era, maybe a quarter of the SS14 inner circle is trans. By the end, that number is up to ~80% and a quarter of them now additionally identify as plural, otherkin, etc.
PJB, as far as I can tell, graduates college during this time. He would be about the age to do so. He gets one temporary internship at a company and we never see anything about work again. He starts spending more and more time hanging out in SS14's voice chat, VRChat, etc and vibes noticably shift to everyone being on eggshells all the time, purity spiraling, and toxic positivity. He first came out as a furry, then as trans. During this time, the first large downstream SS14 servers start to appear. Mostly Russian, but a couple others including Nyanotrasen. At some time during the summer of 2022, PJB's friend, Javier Guardia Fernandez, would try to initiate some kind of cybersex with one of the Nyanotrasen admins, get humored a bit, and then rejected after swapping F-Lists. Javier then leaked the other guy's F-List to everyone and called him a pedophile and had him removed from SS14. Javier's F-List was then leaked, as it revealed him to be a necrozoophile. (Video, sorry can't figure out how to yt-dlp 18+ ones.) PJB initially stayed out of this, but when Javier brought his boyfriend, Jesse Rougeau, on who was immediately promoted to project manager despite barely having done anything, his boyfriend pushed to punish Nyanotrasen (Jesse says this in one of the F95 posts in the gecko thread.) PJB ends up writing a huge fucking word salad post over all of this (archive), including a hand annotated secret 2 hour voice chat recording. This causes dozens of people to leave, go start other projects that would later cause more drama, cause several people on the fence to turn against PJB, and cause PJB to turn further inwards.

In the aftermath of this, due to the staff exodus, PJB starts packing the decision making ranks with crazy people like Moony, AKA Braden Nelson of Bullard Texas, who openly admitted to having BPD and had bimonthly BPDetonations accusing random people of being rapists or gangstalkers. Moony, to this day, is the only one PJB eventually fired after complaints. Moony is also the only one people complained about that was not part of the ERP polycule. Coincidence?

Jesse Rougeau, Smugleaf's boyfriend and now part of the inner circle, would later cause more headaches for PJB by exploding on some random furry, trying to ruin their life but just becoming unemployable himself for it. Jesse Rougeau has caused dozens of people to leave and was cited as a major reason half of PJB's admins left in November. (Archive) Jesse was never removed by PJB, and what eventually got him to leave was advice from his psychiatrist.

He also took on Bhijin, a plural system and former host of Citadel which is wracked with underage ERP stuff personally linked to PJB and Sloth, one of PJB's other PMs.

Most of the drama has been PJB's steadfast obligation to defend his internet "friends" no matter how much trouble they bring his project. Besides the psychopaths his age, PJB has been slowly accumulating new "friends" in the form of kids 10 years younger than him who hang out with him in voice chat.


Most of the new blood, in fact, is teenagers who say SS14 discord gave them major revelations about their sexuality, and have been making friends with the late 20's / early 30's ERP staff who make up most of the "adults in the room."

As these are the people informing PJB's outlook on the world, he's becoming completely fucking psychotic and now treats the game as if it was real life, including threatening to purge more staff over poor consideration given to cartoon animal people.


My Personal Verdict: Brain completely fried by the internet. Loneliness exploited by psychos using cult tactics who drove him insane and cut him off from his more normie-adjacent online friends. Perpetuating this sort of brain cooking to a new generation of vulnerable autists.

I missed out on FTL station and played a "successor" CEV Eris years ago having some fun on it. I liked flying the space ship in the janky spess game. Kind of sad that they die out.

CEV Eris was one of the best servers out of all from the faggot-heap list of ERP servers, super rule-cucked Troonslop servers et cetera simply due to the fact that

1. You could deal with shit by IC instead of bitching to the admemes due to the minimal admin intervention rule and standard enforced for Erismins.
2. You either had your assigned weapon or brought one from many of the ship-side vendors, you have your fundamental rights to wield your god-given gun so if an greynigger breaks into your department, you can shoot him in retaliation. If he bitches to the jannies, he will be told to fuck off.
3. Your assigned department is a independent organization on their own on a ship full of factions which only stick together due to the 'Agreement', an Anarcho-Capitalist set of laws and principles. This means Medbay and Science are by "Moebius Laboratories", Engineering by "Technomancy" or the "Techno-Russians", Cargo and Captain/HoP are by "Asters Guild", Security as Ironhammer, your blue neo-Syndicate mercenaries enforcing the Agreement, and finally the Neotheology Church, Spess Techno-Catholicism for Botanists and Chaplain.
4. Captain doesn't actually own them as he is the landlord merely, he can't walk into Engineering or even Med-Sci expecting free shit in return and if he pisses them too much, they mutiny. Captain owns the ship and rents various areas to the corporations, he has no one to answer to as he is THE freest of men, although he is bonded by his two million debt.
5. Antags are interesting to say the last, the most unique out of all are the Excelsior communists who forcibly convert people by implanter syringes which due to this factor, they are the most hated out of all. There is the Blitzshell Drone, Maintenance Drone's evil twin brother and a beast of an murder-machine that fulfills their purpose by doing various contracts in exchange of telecrystals, which you can use to buy new weaponry or various upgrades. Then the Carrions which is Eris's spider-mutant equivalent of changelings, then finally the Serbian mercenaries as the Erisian nukies except no nuking, rather they just murder anyone they come across to which they simply return to their shuttle after the task has been done. And finally last but not least, the Contractor, but unlike tator tots, they can fulfill each objective for more telecrystals just like the Blitzshell and they have access to heavy weaponry and more powerful gear compared to TG.

The Codemonkeys ruined Eris by focusing on nerfing irrelevant shit from various departments like Science to own da powahgaymers instead of actually fixing and optimizing their nigger-rigged Bay dogshit of an codebase. By contrast, the Admemes were decent as it goes.
However once the main culprit fucked off to Hullrot 14 and since then, CEV Eris has been beginning to improve just a bit.
Ever since the relaunch however, my smile was wiped off when suddenly an Eris janitor whom I thought was very chill and cool in general publicly announced his "transition" in OOC as "Evie" nonetheless.

Pretty sure the RU side of Eris is just as insane too. I seem to recall the RU mins had worse (?) adminbuse tendencies and at one point someone made allegations of child grooming on the RU server.
Godsring (Fallout13 original creator) made F13 originally as a closed sause ERP server to earn donations. Hence the joke about F13/Desert Rose (and whatever iteration of it) players getting off to deathclaws rape.

Damn, I started reading through MSOs Tumblr and it just highlights how mentally unwell, and addicted to negative attention he is. Several high-profile coders for SS13 got hired in part due to their SS13 portfolios (Yes, even coders for degenerate servers). The reality of the tech industry is that the majority of the recruiters do not know what a "Git" is, and those that do will see contribution count and not look much deeper.
