Except there aren't really any RPGs like what Bethesda makes... Except what Bethesda makes. Their specific blend of highly interactive and immersive open world RPGs are a niche they've effectively cornered. It's why people still gulp down their low effort slop. Nothing else can scratch that exact same itch (except MAYBE Cyberpunk, but even then it isn't totally the same)

Kingdom Come is the only one I'd call a Bethesda-like. Cyberpunk would probably be next closest, but like you said it's a hell of a stretch; if we're including that we can Far Cry too.

I get sick of hearing this complaint all the time. What exactly constitutes being deserving of the RPG label? Stats? Progression? Having an isometric perspective? Choice and consequence?
If you need to be told why Skyrim is not an RPG, then you clearly don't know what it is either. Go watch that autistic 11 hour video on it from Patrician TV, I don't have time for a debate right now
Bethesda RPGs were never peak of gameplay even at best of times, arguably only Morrowind is a certified classic. Maybe it's time to stop chasing that nostalgia of when you were a teenager playing your first baby "RPG" on your Xbox and play some big boy games, Baldur's Gate 3 just came out and reminded people of what the term "CRPG" actually means for example.
With so many games and such ease at how you can download them, there really is no excuse anymore. Either play something else or continue playing your slop with more bells and whistles you download from Nexus. Just like modding out your shitbox, it doesn't actually make it any better of a car, and there will always be better ones you can buy right out of the gate(sometimes for less than you would for modding your piece of shit in the first place). Starfield proves that there won't be a "better Bethesda game" because the likes of Skyrim and Fallout 4 just got lucky: At it's core, the Bethesda formula gameplay and design wise is shit, you just liked it because the writing was decent and the world was fun to explore, maybe the gameplay elements tickled your fancy. Starfield has none of that, it is Bethesda slop in it's purest form that exposes what you liked in it's raw state.

The only example you've given so far makes it look like your definition of an RPG is turn-based, while Bethesda's RPGs are realtime action. Which is bullshit, ARPG is an entire subgenre.

Character attributes and character building, having to spec into a role instead of being able to do everything. That's what separates a generic 'action rpg' where the only RPG is leveling up with XP and a skill tree compared to a 'true' RPG. Arguably Bethesda's last actual RPG under that definition was Oblivion since it still had attributes, but that was still a downgrade from Morrowind in terms of character building and needing to spec to a role.

Fallout 3 was also an RPG since it allowed for roleplaying and had many builds you could create, albeit much like with Oblivion it was heavily skewed towards action by this point. Skyrim and onwards shit the bed

If you need to be told what a CRPG is then why are you even debating me?

In a real RPG, your sword must miss half of the time at minimum even if you chose to build your character around that sort of weapon. Yes, that is what the "SkYrIm IsN'T An RpG" crowd sincerely believes. Skyrim is an RPG, it may not be a super autistic one but it is a better RPG because the game is overall more fun.

If it was a true RPG then it would be played at a table, with dice to decide combat, and with three other guys who had never had sex with a woman and a girl with a penis who had had sex with a woman but keep quiet about it as there was no consent.

Niggers in space AKA starfield. It feels Soo fucken bad. 90% of anyone who matters in the game is a nigger, a woman, some other minority, a fag. The bad writing that makes everyone seem retarded is dumb. Getting talked down to by every companion is dumb. Every #bossbitch talks down to you. The settlements are worthless. Ship customization is too limited. Gun customization is too limited, customization is too limited in general. The setting is the mos basic paint by numbers sci-fi. There’s no pizzazz. hey now you can be a troon and get misgendered by the fucken game. At the end of this rant even after all that. I would look past it all if it wasn’t such a bore. It commits the greatest sin any piece of media can commit. Being boring.

Dead literally gay gaem. My friends are still talking about BGS3 and even Cyberpunk. I haven't heard any of them say a word about Starfield in over a month.

I'll wait on calling Starfield dead and gay until we see how many people download the first DLC. If the first DLC is Hearthfire-tier bullshit and the Creation Kit still isn't released then the game will be forgotten in a couple of years.

It'll be funny if the majority of the DLC is procedurally generated planet exploring slop since apart from all the gay/nigger shit that's the aspect of the base game everyone hates the most.

go to the rpgcodex if you wanna argue about "what is an rpg"
Also, big "mad cause bad" vibes from these posts. "Get gud" in an actual RPG instead of building a strawman in Skyrim and then trying to destroy it with a generic lv1 sword you got from a generic bandit, that's all I will say

This is actually a great summary of the game. Touch up the grammar and post it somewhere like Metacritic or Steam to get massive Bethesda/Xbox fan salt

Shit, at least Fallout 76 (for how boring the game has become these days) is still surprisingly relevant, for better or for worse. Starfield is one of those pieces of products that has been forgotten about after a week of release. :story:
They’re going to try and do a Starfield MMO which will be an absolute abortion won’t they?

So you can't explain it and need to continue making up assumptions so that these specific games, which have always been RPGs, just don't qualify. Thanks for proving my point.
you just liked it because the writing was decent and the world was fun to explore,
Projection. Did Todd Howard rape you or something? I like Morrowind and Skyrim but I'd never say the writing approached anything close to 'decent'.

Fallout 4 and Skyrim also have builds so what's your point?

I'm not really interested in arguing which of the games is better overall but yes, that seems to be the argument. There is a threshold of nebulous 'depth' and specialization required for a game to be considered an RPG that only retarded faggots on the internet feel is worth bitching about.

"You can actually roleplay in Oblivion and Morrowind"

People say this, but every time I try to play a build and it sucks ass, someone points out I need to play a very specific style and build for the game to work (without me modding or using console) so...

Meanwhile, in Skyrim, I can play any way I want in the vanilla game and not have to worry about shit.

So is it really "roleplaying" if the games in question punish me for trying to play a certain way?

Joke's on you kid, I only roleplay as meta builds. :smug:
