I can’t speak on Finklestien since I’m not knowledgeable when it comes to him or politics or certainly middle eastern history but I agree just because you crammed for a test and decently passed it (if that’s the case) its not what I’d call a triumph. What did you do? Study for years and years making it your life’s work to engage in a debate where you could express this insight and erudition you’ve studied a long time or did you shove a bunch of Wikipedia info down your throat in a few months to regurgitate it for the debate. I can praise Tiny’s memory of things he reads, I can paise him being articulate in expressing what he’s retained but thoroughly knowledgeable and proficient, fuck no. However I’d be remiss to ignore the argument of optics, like Destiny wrecked him and the sad part is Finklestein made this his career and passion. It would be disappointing to see a so called expert be out-done by a streamer who studied a few months, but that’s speaks more to Finklestein’s ineptitude as an older man debating a younger, more heated and resolute person rather than Destiny being superlative in this group.

He started out with wiki but has read a ton of international law, articles and even books on stream. He interviewed Benny Morris and talked with lots of other people. I can definitely see it if he got frustrated enough, and it seems like most, if not all, of his research was pretty much worthless for the debate. But I do agree, the debate didn't go as he would have liked to.

I never expected him to get humiliated but saying he lost the debate is obviously going to trigger him so I hope that's the overriding consensus. This is such a morally loaded subject that, in general, people won't be convinced either way and just back whoever is arguing their side.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with reading Wikipedia articles, especially when you follow up and read the linked sources. The problem with what Destiny does is he's trying to min/max his understanding of a decades old conflict by memorizing factoids to suit his narrative. He started with a conclusion and has done everything he can to enforce that narrative in his head.

I've mentioned these before but just to re-iterate incase it happens on the lex video - this is a largely emotional topic that Destiny is trying to "facts and logic" his way out of. I'm not going to get too into it, but the easiest example is talking about the food/aid situation in Gaza right now. Destiny, for some reason, will staunchly argue against there being any sort of famine or food insecurity in Gaza, despite every aid agency involved saying that it's an issue. Destiny just doesn't believe them and demands people film starving babies with bloated stomachs in 4K to even give it a shred of credibility. He read a Wikipedia article about famine in Yemen and now his brain can only think of things in relation to that.

Basically, this is how conversations with him go:
"There are serious issues relating to malnutrition and aid in Gaza right now"
"Is there really? I haven't seen any evidence of that. Besides, did you know that 80 years ago some Palestinian diplomat turned down a peace deal with Israel? Palestinians don't even want peace and deserve everything that's happening"

This is true, but my general point is it's a good place to start. If you care enough to actually check the sources you're probably aware of the biases that the source material may have, and that should allow you to follow up with other sources. The autists that contribute to Wikipedia are also worse than the autists on here, especially when it comes to things like maths or physics. Obviously things will tend to slant in one direction (especially when a certain nation state pays propagandists to Post Online), but imo it's good to get an overview of subjects.

I caught a bit of jstlk's stream and wolfgangad was saying that he made it and didn't see what the problem is with it. It looks like someone has followed a beginner photoshop tutorial in 2012 to make a forum signature. Also the fact that erudite has posted a screenshot of the image (you can see the white bar at the bottom) and not the actual image is an additional treat.

I was a bit surprised by the amount of people praising Ethan for his bravery and insight, as if accusing Israel's critics of antisemitism isn't so worn out and hollow t's basically a meme at this point.
