I disagree with some of this. Onlyfans made doing porn seem normal. So a lot of the people who get involved in it are not necessarily the same as pornstars of yore. The current discourse is that there's nothing wrong with doing Onlyfans or sex work, but there is something wrong with being a paying customer. So when they go into it, many of them actually do have a sense of dignity and self respect. But it becomes eroded over time, because they do come to the conclusion that if they are able to fake the girlfriend experience, then what differentiates how they act with their customers and how "genuine" romantic interests treat them

If your job involves convincingly pretending to be interested in someone, then you will start to question whether or not your actual friends and partners are genuinely interested and concerned for you. So over time their dignity and self respect becomes eroded because they come to the natural conclusion that a lot of genuinely important things are pointless/meaningless. And this is why this is such a problem for the BPD girls who have gotten roped into the normalization of this line of work. Originally the argument was that sex work was a job as any other, which it is, but recently the goalpost moved from sex work being a job to sex work being an empowering job, which is not the case. This change of framing paired with how those websites work by foregoing the anonymity which was normal on the internet before results in people who don't see sex work as a job with tradeoffs (your privacy and self worth in exchange of money, same as being a trash man, having to handle trash for money) to a job that is only positive. This is obviously a lie, since sex work is historically a job that quite literally breaks people that go into it without having the proper mindset to separate their own self to their work-self.

It is not so much as feminism selling the wrong idea, but patreon and onlyfans being soo easy to get into makes people who do sex work skip the critical thinking that should come before going into those jobs.

Edit: Another good thing to have in mind is that the whole parasocial angle in sex work didn't exist.
