Others touched on the "balanced" aspect which is part of it, but I think the big thing being ignored is that he would frequently comment on non-political drama specifically, especially if it was somebody Destiny didn't like, and he'd do it in a way that commentary could engage with it. He was also pretty good at it in the minds of the drama enjoyers: he built up a reputation for solid drama takes that way, which had carried forward.

That all is a bit unique considering politics creators tend to kind of laser focus on that rather than doing general drama too.

Doesn't hurt that a lot of the current gen commentary people were around during or at the tail-end of the IBS era when Destiny was best known for wading into all kinds of hostile debate territory to lay his dick on their proverbial table and not embarrass himself, that's a good way to build up cred even if you don't agree with him.
