It was entirely avoidable, that is the thing that floors me about the entire ring video saga. from what I recall the series of events went like this:

crowder abandons his pregnant wife to get elective surgery, she files for divorce from him, gives birth to twins he does not bother to see, he cuts her off from all their joint accounts so she has no money.

crowder announces the divorce on his show and instead of saying something sane like "I know it is sad but we request privacy during this time" he took the opportunity to say his wife is actually a bad person and that the divorce was entirely due to her preference, he claimed to have "chose wrong" by marrying her & that was all the responsibility he took. I mean look at this shit (I copy and pasted it from a news article, but it is exactly what I remember him saying at the time):

'I loved a woman so much that I married her,' said Crowder.

'A woman who, despite all of this, I still love as the mother of my children and she wanted something else for her life.

'That's not my choice, she simply wanted out and the law says that that's how it works.'

She wisely saw that all the sympathy crowder got from lying about her created an incentive for him to trash her on his show. So after consulting w an attorney they released the ring video, and then he blamed her for responding to lies he told the entire world. She sat on that video for a long time, but her reputation had been smeared by someone with a huge platform & responded in a very measured way. I don't think she wanted strangers on the internet discussing any of this, either, but she didn't get much of a choice about it after his announcement.

Only very stupid people live with other parent of their children and get rich without marrying. It's a profoundly stupid thing to do for multiple reasons but let's say you are, for example, a football player and you do such a thing.

When the relationship breaks up you are way more fucked! The other parent has no assets! Do you think the fact that you are walking with a decade plus of accumulated wealth and leaving the other parent in penury makes you look good to the judge? It does not!

Maybe this is a dumb question: but how can he actually do this without her signature? Joint accounts require both parties sign off on major decisions.

I don't doubt for a moment that Crowder is a control freak, freakshow. There's plenty of evidence of that. But it's rarer that there are bigger victims in a divorce other than the children. Some people just like a soap opera.

(Edit) Jared getting involved is not likely helpful either in resolving the divorce, if the goal is for it to be end amicably for the sake of the children... supporting a ex-colleague who faced very similar problems on the job makes more sense...

People will put all sorts of terms into prenups, but it can be struck down as "unfair" by a judge, with absolutely no basis on case law or statutes. It makes me wonder how many judges have struck down prenups because they received money or sexual favors.

people really don't understand what prenups are for and what they can reasonably do. the typical proper use of a prenup is a situation where there are legitimate clear reasons to prevent the mingling of assets, for example a second marriage for parties with significant assets who both have children from previous relationships.

"I want to marry this hot piece of ass but I don't want them to have any of my money when I stop wanting to fuck them" is not a legitimate basis for a prenup under our system of law and it's stupid to even try it.

People have a very strong folk belief that marriage law is contract law and both parties are entering into an agreement they can individually craft. That is completely fucking wrong! You are not Muslim and you are not Jewish. You are getting married either under Anglo-American common law or under code law, and in both of those systems, marriage is a state that is defined by the law not by you.

Now custody is totally different, custody is 100% feels and vibes. But legally? custody doesn't really have anything to do with marriage.

There's two gay theories I have:

1. If a woman at a bar asks if you're gay or calls you gay she's pissed that you aren't trying to hit on her.
2. If a man has to brag about his alleged girlfriends he is insecure and seeking male validation. It doesn't necessarily mean he's necessarily gay but way higher likelihood.

I listened to Crowder's Lawyer/Business Partner/Hatchetman give his explanation for what's going on and it made less sense to me than any conspiracy theory from Alex Jones. Unless I'm horribly wrong he claims that Stephen is offering Hillary a way better settlement than one she could ever get from a court? Well gee why wouldn't you just let it go to court? What type of shit Lionel Hutz attorney do you have working for you Crowder. And then he babbled on about how all the security camera footage was deleted except for the infamous clip of him acting like a Lifetime Movie abusive husband. Frankly I can't imagine what this poor woman did or said IF I WERE (I'm not) Hilary's brother and saw that clip I'd find Steven and give him some dental work.

There's also the fact that the longer this scandal continues to be hot, the worse Crowder looks. It also increases the chance of other people coming forward or teaming up with his ex-wife. Also, things entered into the court record will stay in the court record and be accessible by everybody willing to pay a small fee, including every enemy he has ever made and any gossip site. If there's anything Crowder has, its secrets. An attorney can easily punish the opposition by finding ways to enter embarrassing details into the official record, or even allegations.

He has every incentive for this to be over as soon as possible. In fact, in the correspondence from his wife's camp they acknowledge that the longer this goes on the worse this is for him, and dragging it out is strategic.

I have never enjoyed a single Crowder video I've tried to watch but his wife is trying to fuck him hard. Whether that's deserved or right is a different matter, but I think it's weird to pretend that's not her intent. This is a nasty affair involving nasty people.
