I have my doubts about this. I was just talking to a friend of mine who has a sunken chest. It's noticeable, but it's not something he's thought about correcting (doctors have told him he could in the past, but it's a pretty involved surgery). You can find skits of Crowder with his shirt off before his surgery and it doesn't seem noticeable.

Notice it cuts out after Crowder says: "50% stroke volume" ... we don't hear what the doctor responds with. There are a lot of cuts around what the doctors are telling him.

Also, that Instagram photo that keeps getting references after his "top surgery," ... dude is fat. He's not a marathon runner. I have my doubts he needed this surgery to increase a heart/lung capacity he doesn't seem to be using.

But I'm not a Medical Priest (a.k.a Doctor). Maybe this surgery was necessary. But even if it was, it wasn't necessary to schedule it during his wife's pregnancy. He could have scheduled it years before or even a year after. As it's been pointed out, I think Crowder intentionally scheduled it around that time so he got the attention instead of his wife giving birth to kids he doesn't give a shit about.

I bet if Soloman was his divorce judge and said to cut both children in half, Crowder would say "Do it!"

It's fairly common and I know several folks with way worse cases that don't have the surgery because of the risk and expense and do other things like physical therapy and vacuum bells to help and it's not a big deal to them. Major/regional power conflicts in the modern sense basically require mass conscription. I think the unpopularity/difficulty of that, mixed with the economic harm/stagnation thatcomes from it are the real things that keep them so rare.
