Streamer Hate Thread - Total Streamer Death

95% of streamers I could care less about and their content is always getting in my way and almost certainly burying the stuff I actually want to see. Essentially any popular streamer is just dumb shit for the lowest common denominator to eat up, and yes that now includes Vinesauce. I used to watch that channel literally a decade ago and comparing the vibe of the community from then to now and even the demeanors of Vinny and Joel you can tell a lot has changed. Sucks, but that's just how it is. Other streamers I just never gave a shit about to start with and if they have a suspiciously large following I just immediately assume they play dumb shit that doesn't interest me.

Twitch is absolutely choked with low effort terrible streamers who need to find something else to do with their time. I don't fuck with vtubers at all and I don't even bother with the "Just Chatting" section. Unfortunately the Retro category has also become something of a dumping ground where people just spin up streams to waste bandwidth running marathons of Malcolm in the Middle dubbed in Spanish. I'm doing my best to fight against the "enshittification" of the platform though. I have a plugin called Unwanted Twitch that lets me do way more than mark individual channels I don't like as "Don't recommend again". I can blacklist entire tags and the plugin will automatically hide every single streamer using the tag. So I dumped in vtuber, all of the foreign language tags, every possible permutation of LGBTQIA+ shit, every "trans" and "nonbinary" variant, "Safe Space", "Mental Health", etc. There's still a lot of chaff to sort through but it's nice knowing that the majority of it is hidden in advance.

I yearn for the everyman streamer with 10 viewers just doing his own thing and legitimately enjoying it.

It’s either some insufferable loud mouthed autist putting on the fakest of fake personas or it’s some dead-eyed weirdo being quiet as the grave and not saying or engaging whatsoever. Never a happy medium of just a chill, normal person playing some vidya and bullshitting with the audience.

Do people find these enjoying? Like are you that socially depraved that your only interaction is a streamer (or vtuber) making lane comments over a video?

I personally enjoyed a few Let's Plays and even bought many of the games I watched. I cannot deny that Chugga's 20009-2012 run got me to buy a handful of GC titles. Nowadays I cannot even watch people playing games as the whole gimmick now is how much they suck. At least Chugga knew how to play the games he was playing and could operate as a tutorial if needed. Ever since PewDiePie, every streamer just records themselves with no plan or knowledge of the game, hoping their screaming fits or terrible commentary generates views. And these are the ones that actually play video games in the gaming stream category. Many cannot even put in the effort to do that.

YouTubers who start doing this instead of making videos are chasing algorithm changes and basically don't have a choice. I hate it. It turns shitty YouTubers into even shittier streamers.

Probably the worst example I can think of is Midnight's Edge. They only occasionally made videos worth watching/listening to, but the streams are pure cancer. Fuck them. I rarely unsubscribe from channels I follow, but they were one of them I did.
