Sunglasses are practically everywhere these days. Kiwis, do you have any favorite sunglasses?

Mine is the Oakley Over the Tops. Never owned them but damn do they look cool. Early 2000’s

Oakley was cookin.

Um those sunglasses? I think they are called that at least, on the right in your image? Why do they look like some sci-fi bra?
They’re over the tops.

They look like that so the sunglasses don’t have to sit right atop your ears.

It seems that all the discounts like buy 1 pair of glasses + get prescriptiption sunglasses for free go only up to certain corrections and above that, the prices for sunglasses make me go ''nah fuck that''. I have a reflective shield on hinges I can wear over the normal glasses, when I go cross-country skiing.

Depends on how much you're paying. it feels like most brick and mortar shops make you pay an arm and a leg for anything.

I wish I didn't need prescription so I could just buy off the rack :( Haven't wore sunglasses in years.

Find a real optician (& not a salesman), edging machines can fit prescriptions into virtually any frames.

Any halfway decent shop will have a rack full of universal-fit clip-on, it's just a matter of finding one that's close enough. There's even places that will solder & paint custom clip-on tailored to the shape of your glasses.

The industry is full of sheisters and disingenuous retards. In Canada, to pass NACOR (licensing) all you need to know is how to read a prescription, operate a lensmeter and perform basic frame adjustments. The vast majority of shops outsource their manufacturing, the optician barely does anything beyond filling an order and some quality assurance before dispensing the product. All the real work is handled by some "laboratory" they outsource to. Real opticians do everything except the manufacture of the lens itself (nikon, zeiss, essilor, ect...), they have the equipment and tools in the back to do everything. It just makes me Mad At The Industry when I see what other shops do and charge for really shitty services (and get away with).

A handful of years ago one of my friends recommended the brand William Painter so I got a pair to try them and they've been my favorites ever since.

for a while I would wear shooting glasses I liked them for the coverage and how they looked, but the theoretical protection was nice
one pair I had was some Remingtons I got a Wal-Mart for like, twenty bucks, really nice and comfy, ended up they used them (or an extremely similar model) as the glasses for firing the wave motion gun in the yamato live action so that was dank af
my main pair these days is a pair I got as a gift, but I have a lot of those one dollar shades they have in automotive
turned out they really work, the time I got hit by a car and went flying there's a big divot in my forehead and some serious gashes in them glasses
dollar bullshit walmart safety shades literally saved my eye
