They had this brilliant setup where Superman intervenes in a countries foreign policy and there is a real, very reasonable concern raised in the movie about how unelected super powered people defacto decide policy by intervening when a state makes a call they dont like. This issue is never actually addressed in the movie because they have to make Lex Luther an idiot for 20 minutes so that they dont have to answer that and can justify beating him up.
The movies message is basically that "actually I SHOULD use my powers to control everyone as I see fit and everyone who disagrees with me is just obsessed and jealous of me and involved in a grand conspiracy to justify attacking me"

The scary part of that message is that the people who made this film do control American media as they see fit, this is just mythologizing their bad practices in the industry to normalise and glorify the anti-right bias of Hollywood, as Hollywood has been doing for decades since the 1970s.
