A dark god(dess) was created from the accumulated psychic backwash from the Eldar's increasing, species-wide depravity this is correct. However, there weren't "Dark" Eldar back then per se. The Dark Eldar or "Druchari" are simply the survivors of the collapse of the old Eldar society. They created Slaanesh, not Slaanesh created them. Of the remaining Eldar after the catastrophic fall of their species there are the following:I was once told Dark Eldar are the result of Eldar having an orgy so big and depraved a dark god was formed. No idea how true that it.
- Dark Eldar (Druchari). They were dwelling or visiting outside of Real Space in a sort of hyperspace network called the Webway at the time of the fall and therefore survived the psychic birth of the god(dess) which fried the minds and consumed the souls of nearly all other Eldar. Did they decide to mend their ways when they saw how pretty much pure chance had spared them? No, they decided to find a loophole so they could continue living a life of utter depravity. That loophole, btw, is to create psychic agony in other species by means of pain, torture, etc. as a kind of substitute for their own souls being consumed.
- Craftworld Eldar. These were Eldar that saw what was happening to their society and went full No Fap, leaving in giant vessels called Craftworlds with their fellow No Fap eldar and created a very strict life plan called The Path which they stick to rigidly less they begin fapping again.
- Exodites. Similarly to the Craftworld Eldar these were eldar that saw what was coming or just didn't like being depraved degenerates but rather than the self-imposed restraint approach of the craftworlds decided to remove temptation by means of adopting a really hard life. They went semi-primitive and live on wild planets and hunt and such, lots of physical labour and survivalism, etc. Think of the Craftwold Eldar as those saying "I will not look at porn" and the Exodites as those saying: "I threw out my computer and cancelled my Internet". The Exodite solution is pretty effective, really. You don't have time to become a degenerate when your days are filled with finding food on a planet filled with dangerous carnivours.
- Harlequinns. A very minor faction in numbers. Essentially the followers of a different Eldar god (one of the few surviving ones) who in theory have their souls join that god when they die rather than be consumed by Slaanesh. Whether or not that works I'm not sure is canon.
- Pirates/Corsairs/Outcasts. Not a single faction and Outcasts and Corsairs are not the same thing either but these raggedy outsiders all tend to blur together. They're not exclusive of the other factions per se. An Outcast / Wander is still following a Craftworld Path just a very dangerous and iffy one. A Druchari might be a Corsair alongiside a Craftworld eldar (though Druchari tend to have slightly constrained ability to endure Real Space). Really the two big factions are Dark Eldar and Craftworld Eldar.
