i am organizing a tea party for a few friends. what are the best pastries i can make for the ungrateful bastards who still think its storebought?

My favorite tea is Darjeeling personally- or Earl Gray with honey and lime
Crumpets. Scotch shortbread.

I wish I could get into Darjeeling but the subtle differences between the varieties seem to elude me. Maybe I wrecked my sense of taste with bad habits. I like things like double bergamot Earl Grey and strong lapsang souchong. Matcha is nice too.

Trying to get into matcha now. Does anyone have a supplier for kit and tea that they’d recommend?

Go to sipping tea and morning tea: green tea & flavored green tea. Been hooked on this peach one for weeks now.

As for herbal teas peppermint is the shit. I could drink pot after pot it. I appreciate a good floral mix too. Over time I've built up a collection of jars with loose leaf herbs/teas. My go to is rose petals, rose hips and lavender (with the occasional pinch of chamomile).

Started drinking London fogs recently. Compliments the cold weather perfectly. Sometimes I get like to get fancy and add touch of vanilla bean paste. Love a good chai as well.

I don't have a ton of experience with matcha, but I've purchased a few things from Thés du Japon, mostly sencha. A lot of the offerings are usually higher end, but I also have some of the Kyoken-283 left and it's still really good, and it's like $1 per cup. They don't have any matcha kits though, but they do offer the tools separately if you want the authentic experience. Otherwise, grabbing a chasen/chashaku off of Amazon is much cheaper.

I see Ippodo recommended often, but I've never tried any of their stuff. Looks like they've got a wide range of options tea-wise, and some kits too. I do think that their teapots and bowls are a bit overpriced though. I've got a few chawan from Artistic Nippon and they're very nice and worth their price.

The only other option off the top of my head would be Rikyu. They specialize in Japanese tea antiques more so than tea, but they have some nice looking kits and pieces.

Cameron Highlands Green Ginger tea is pretty damn good, but be warned that the Cameran Highlands is a tourist trap full of Muslims and fucked up traffic jams.

I'm pretty big into making my own tea whenever I get the chance to. During the summer one of my fields fills up with goldenrod, which makes excellent tea. If any of you ever get the chance you should try making sassafras tea. A year or two back I happened to come across a sassafras tree, I just took some of the leaves cause it was far too public to start digging up any of the roots. It still tasted great though, almost somewhere between coffee and tea.

I had to see this.
So you ALL must suffer with me.
It's fucking MILK.jpg

That looks like a cup of tea with milk in it. Give me horrifying stickers if you like, but I see nothing wrong with it.

I like adding milk or cream to my tea. If I don't, I start to get jittery.

I like milk in my tea as well. The clear problem with the cup pictured is that there's barely any tea in it, it's just slightly tinted water with some milk in there. If cups of tea were people, this one would be on its deathbed, receiving the last rites.

I'll agree it's weak tea. Sometimes that's what people want. It's good for people who are sick.

I like my tea with lots of cream. On an etiquette level, I think you should serve it plain and offer options like milk and honey.

Edit: I like green tea, which has a weaker color. Are we just assuming the mug in the picture is black?

Had a nice cup of Orange Rooibos Spice the other night.

I was concerned before steeping that the bag might've been too old and lost its potency because it didn't smell like anything.

But the actual finished product was very yummy.
