it also seems to effect New Posts... the "similar threads" section doesn't pop up when you add the title so you can't tell if something was already created or not.

Why do page loads and site functions (e.g. stickers, Edit, Insert quotes, Post reply) generally stop working for 30-120 seconds every 2-5 minutes? Is the weird federated setup to blame or is it a DDoS? Seems like the former because it's at all hours.

Yep, no other thread has that problem for me so far.

Using TOR seems to fix this issue temporarily. Just hit the "New circuit" button to get a new IP, and it fixes the issue within seconds.

Something i've noticed about stickers (by right-clicking on one and opening the selection option in another tab) and posts is that 9 times out of 10, they do post on the first try but just don't update.

Stickers aren't the problem. I'm just observing that all site functions stop working. XenForo is a piece of shit for not even allowing you to quote messages and insert them into the reply box while the site can't connect. I don't think you can even switch to BBcode mode and back without hitting the server. Making more of this stuff work 100% client-side so that more can get done during DDoS attacks is low-hanging fruit for SneedForo. But I'm not sure that a DDoS attack is the problem here.

videos just do not play for me anymore, most of the time. sometimes they at least are playable and have a thumbnail but a large portion of the time they look like this

if they are able to be played they are buffering far worse than ever before and anything not super short is not even worth trying.

Experience is pretty much the same on a mac, PC, and mobile. mostly using Brave but the videos seemed to do a little better on safari. I would prefer not to use safari though. I have cleared the cache multiple times. any idea if there's anything else to try to improve video experience?

Maybe related but I get the site slowing down to a crawl and sometimes throwing a 429 Too Many Requests and I'm browsing normally. Once I notice it slowing down, I can switch to a different VPN server and then it's back to normal.

I'm also getting 429 Too Many Requests if I click on too many pages in a period of time. If I then switch to a vpn or to another a vpn tunnel it works fine. I haven't tried tor yet.
