I've been listening to Ghamorean a lot lately. They only released three albums and they're all great. I just have a gripe with Eon Eschatos because it sounds like it was recorded in mono and I just don't get it.

I really like the chorus where it's choir -> vocals -> choir + vocals. Neat trick.

I need to apologize for being a hipster asshole for 20 years because Blood and Thunder kicks ass now that I've finally listened to it.

Sorry if this has been posted already but I really dig Joey's music post-Slipknot, It'll never hit the same highs as Left Behind or Surfacing but it damn near reaches it.

EDIT: Sorry for the dead or non working link, it’s a link to Invasion by Vinnie Vincent Invasion. When I get to my computer I can try to find a working link.

One of my all time favorites. I’ve joked for years that my taste in metal has just devolved to hair bands and Motörhead, but I genuinely think this is an enlightened state of metal listening. This song pretty much has all my favorite hair metal riffs and that chorus is just to die for. I didn’t much like the 2nd VVI album, but this first one is a masterclass.

That whole era in the 80’s where you had neoclassical shred fests disguised as hair metal albums very well may be my favorite moment in time for metal music. These guys couldn’t really “let loose” and just shred and that put out on an album IF they wanted to make money and be successful, so they needed to form a band that had a sound that was agreeable to the American market. In an essence, they had “reign” their sound to sell any albums. I think that creative restriction was actual a huge benefit to these guys, and it led to more interesting sounds than just 30 minutes of guitar noodling.

I am always on the lookout for more stoner and/or doom metal bands. If you have any good underground stoner-doom bands to share, GIVE THEM ME.

Assuming you don't mind long, meandering songs if you're into doom but the way it crescendos after minute 11 then fades into that Dunwich Horror sample is peak.

The metal subgenres I listen to are a bit broader, but like 95% of it is from the 80s-2000s.

I will give hair metal some credit, RATT has some great riffs, and WASP's Crimson Idol is one of the best concept albums ever made.

Very good taste IMO. It’s funny, those two bands you mentioned I still see people argue whether or not they were truly hair metal. For me, they both were the real deal as in I think they more than just hair bands. I love both bands, but in particular, Out of the Cellar is in my top ten all time albums. Perfect blend of 80’s metal, the emerging hair sound, and just a dash of some of that AOR goodness. DeMartini and Crosby (RIP) were two of the greatest guitar heroes of the 80’s.

W.A.S.P. came a little stronger out of the gate as a metal band. They’re one of those bands where I always thought the debut was the best they sounded, and each release was a little worse. Crimson Idol is hard to deny though. Great Misconceptions of Me and I Am One rule. Tons of fan favorites on that one.

I recommend checking out Sabïre if you haven’t listened to them before. They capture a great heavy metal sound on their stuff. This one is undeniable:

New Dead Heat single today. It’s good; slightly derivative. I normally don’t care for newer crossover/thrash bands but I saw these guys open for Municipal Waste last year and they really blew me away. Their hardcore elements feel genuine and their metal sections have a more “traditional” feel to them versus other bands of the same ilk.

I consider Crimson Idol to be the definitive concept album. It’s a relatable story and unlike MindCrime which is a good album but it has a more grounded in reality story about love, acceptance, and rejection by parents. First time I heard it on my headphones I was blown away by it and amazed at the details of the story. Re-Idolized just seemed phoned in and lacked the heart the original had.

I do enjoy listening to Streets and Crimson Idol back to back due to both stories essentially being about love, though Streets ends up being a happier ending.

Agree on MindCrime-it's good, but the more I listen to the story, the more it feels like a "I'm 14 and this is deep" kind of thing.
