The Grand Library of Kiwi Farms Meta Discussion

  • 🐕 I am attempting to get the site runnning as fast as possible. If you are experiencing slow page load times, please report it.
In other news, "the Machine Stops" has been featured in the OP for almost a month now. I feel I should just leave it up till the end of May so we can have nice even months going foreword. What should I feature next though? if anyone cares that is lol.
I think on the first of the month, you should pick an entry you like (or use the highlight feature to pick one you like). Or hold a vote in this thread if you can't decide.

@Associate Rick could you split your submissions up into three posts? Double posting is definitely allowed in the Library thread as long as each post is a book. Each title should have its own post so the forums search feature works properly. You should also not include quote texts and so on. This isn't just pure autism. If the thread lasts, for years potentially, it could build up to thousands of posts and extraneous information and text will make it a nightmare to search.

I've fixed that now.

Just archived "The Domestic Chemist". I came across this gem as a throw away reference from the tasting history guy on youtube as the historical definition of ketchup.

Jesus bros, read the introduction. Keep in mind, this book was done at the dawn of the industrial age and the birth of the modern food industry. There were no industry standards and no laws against putting literal poison in your product. This book was a self help guide to advise the consumer.

And the intro is just so well written. In 1831 this is what a basic literate person would be expected to read.

It will be manifest to all persons who
deign to look into the following pages, that, if properly executed, the work is adapted to become of great public utility. The principal aim of it is to erect a barricade against the cupidity of fraudulent tradesmen, and to put it into every man's power to ensure his health and wealth against the ravages of adulteration and disease. That this is a well-timed and necessary object, will be denied by few persons of observation. Pecuniary losses, the production of ill-health, and many other evils of magnitude are the natural and diurnal consequences of the consumption of adulterated food; while lingering and tormenting disorders, and even death itself, are the more appalling re-sults of the employment of sophisticated drugs. To guard against these effects—to enable every individual to protect his person and property from the machinations of demons

Having archived works floating around in threads (sometimes improperly labelled or not labelled at all) is not a good way to go about creating a library. I wonder if MediaWiki could be implemented for the task.

There's a reason we have a consolidated thread for public domain works and a specific way to label them. We can't use something like MediaWiki because crying trannies will get us banned (despite the fact we'd use it for only one purpose.)

Honestly what is the point of a library of kiwifarms?

Just ask null to host a few torrents of classics.
There are entire communities dedicated to archiving those things.

I would say make sure there is no copyright. The laws are retarded, but dear sneeder is already fighting two retarded copyright lawsuits and does not need a third. If it's unclear it never hurts too ask
I just got a notice about removing a requested book because it violated the rules, so I went to the thread, and the initial post said to come here, but there is no sticky post laying out the rules, so can we have that?

editing to add the below and link in image for convenience:

The rules are in the OP of the Library thread. Basically, no discussion so the forums search feature can be used. It's not a big deal right now, but it can become one if the thread sticks around for a few years.

You also need to indicate the name of the book, its author and where you got it. Partly so that it can be searched for, and also so we can make sure a copyrighted book isn't uploaded to cause the forum more headaches.
