This just dropped. Government leaning on platforms to unmask anonymous users over criticism. Grand jury involved.
Think about that for a second.

Everyone online loves to act untouchable, throw words, expose things, play ghost. But all it takes is the right pressure, and suddenly the platform you trusted becomes a doorway.

Question is, where’s the line?
Is this about actual crime, or is it about controlling narratives when they get uncomfortable?
Because if criticism alone can drag you into a courtroom, then “anonymous” was never real. Just temporary.

Curious what people think, how far should this go?

Honestly surprised redditors haven't already had their information sold to the government.
I'm against it because I'm against all forms of that. Not even redditors deserve to be doxed by the government.
OP seems sus as well.

Alright, I assume the shitlibs who will inevitably bitch about this and "free speech being violated" have the EXACT same opinions on what the German and UK governments are doing to people they deem "right wing extremists", right? It's not like the media will overblow the same act they otherwise support when it's committed by a government they don't like, right?

The twist is probably that he's wanted for trafficking children and making pedo films, not that he whined about ICE on reddit.
I don’t know all the details but it is crazy how often this is true involving ICE. Every time there is some supposed legal grey area they cross into, it turns out whoever they are trying to deport is a kidnapper, rapist or murderer. ICE can’t be perfect, and by their very nature as feds, I feel the need to undermine them. But their track record is almost flawless and I cannot deny that.

GPT ass OP

Agreed. @denhicks1987 can you put the link to the article in the OP?

They will happily give the info for free if the "correct" admin is in power. Otherwise they will fight tooth and nail out of pure spite for the "wrong" admin rather than any moral standard.

Why am I not surprised? I'll try to explain this simply.

The Feds have very clear lines you do not cross. If you cross them, the glowies will get your information, whether you like it or not. If they are trying to get your information, you crossed the line.

The lines not to cross include, but are by no means limited to, threatening Federal agents (like ICE), threatening sitting politicians (Null handed at least one user's data to the Feds when that user threatened sitting politicians), or threatening to overthrow the government. The Feds have an interest in protecting themselves, and unlike you they take online threats seriously.

ICE agents have been called Nazis under the guise of criticism. The popular consensus is Nazis are okay to shoot. Therefore, it's not too much of a leap to say this Redditor has been advocating shooting ICE, while trying to present it as "le hecking criticism." This isn't the Feds breaching lawyer-client privilege of the President's political enemies.

Lurk more.

Here's the article

“When John Doe’s attorneys later reviewed their Reddit posts, they found nothing to suggest criminal activity or intent,” The Intercept article said.

Uh huh.

In one instance, Doe commented in response to a Minnesota Star Tribune article in January 2026 about Jonathan Ross, the ICE officer who fatally shot Renée Good in Minneapolis.

“John Doe responded by sharing that Ross had lived in Chaska, Minnesota; grew up in Indiana; and served in the Indiana National Guard—biographical details that were circulating widely at the time,” and wrote that “Hopefully he moves up to Stillwater State Penitentiary,” according to The Intercept.

Sounds like that "laundering dox" thing reddit frequently accuses KF of doing.
