You may confusing the meth element with Matthew Shephard. There's nothing in the Brandon/Teena story that hints at that, no matter the source. She drank a lot as her life was spiraling, but her suicide attempt was to take a bottle of antibiotics - really not likely a choice for someone with regular access to hard drugs.
