In all honesty, the post wasn't really designed to be antagonistic, though it might've come off as such to some. I see it as more of a "hey guys, look what I found that's interesting" kinda thing, ya know? We all have done cringe and lame stuff like it before and knowing this from experience, I definitely agree with your assessment that he's very much harmless. There's no need to ruin his fun if it's just that and leave it there.
If you're talking about Memories of Phantasm, I don't think approving it as official media would've changed much in drawing more interest from newcomers. It happens to be the most popular one because it looks pretty and that's it. Now with A Summer Day's Dream, that little series has more going on than a rehash of the games and Hifuu Club Activity Record takes upon Merry and Renko's adventures for a change.
I would argue that Lost Word did more than enough in all respects, especially on the virtue that it brought more players than the shmups ever could. Like I've stated before, that game is its own bamboo forest trap to dive into and the people it brought over only likes the game and the memes it spawns.
Why spend all that time and money animating a few frames per month for something that'll come out later when you can hook up a deal with an otaku merchandise company for a gacha title that is cheap and easy to make. I trust that ZUN would know what gets the most attention other than make a Reimu VTuber.

I would say he's kind of an artcow for me, but I wouldn't really describe him as such compared to much bigger autists like Blake. It's mostly just the art style, every character looks the same and is either fat, has fat tits or both.

Akatsuki can make a damn good song every now and again; meanwhile, I will occasionally look back on A-One and other Eurobeat artists for Touhou but I've long since found more interesting and cooler tracks, fitting for my tastes.
I'll share a personal liking and recommendation for Maritumix in the more electronic, action kinda feel for his 2hu tracks. Liked them enough to save some of the music onto my PC!
Even their originals can be really good with a wide variety of genres. This is what defines doujin to me.

I just received my Ran fumo today, and aside from being slightly annoyed that the seller forgot to include the badge (second time this has happened), I am slightly in awe at how fucking big her tails are.
