Transformers general thread - Toy Robot men based on giant robots based on previously mentioned toys about said robots

Studio Trigger's Transformers 40th Anniversary Special short is out.
I never thought I would get teary eyed seeing the Armada kids...
They managed to make the earthspark kids look like actual people lmao I had to do a double take.

Also the little beast wars/machines segment was smooth. You can tell a lot of thought and care was put into this despite how it's almost a slideshow in a number of parts.

Watch lunatics claim this is racist or something

What they'd probably do if they did anything like that would make some stink about "representation" or something. Or do what journos did when the live action sonic movie delayed to fix the cgi from the initial trailer and call it "enabling toxic fanboys" or some shit.

I mean they could always frame it as whitewashing or something I guess. They tend to do that when black characters are like in any kind of well lit area where you can clearly see they've just got brown pigment skin and not borderline actual bixnood caricature black voids.

That was awesome, loved seeing the characters from across the years in scenes together.

The Vector Prime emphasis tied in nicely, very good use of him.
I personally liked seeing the Battle Beasts. Sad that the kickstarter to bring back Battle Beast like figures never happened.

Holy fuck i wish now we had bayverse animated by trigger
That split second was the most impressive thing out of the entire animation; I didn't know it was possible to make movie Megatron look cool without overhauling the design entirely, but Megatron's spikiness was translated to look almost like something from Samurai Jack instead of being an overcomplicated mess, while still staying in the ballpark of the movie depiction, just lankier.

Have you ever seen the "armorvor" figures by Onell that are basically just battle beast tribute guys? The person that makes them usually puts out one or 2 variants every few months each year for about a decade now. I finally managed to get a few a year or 2 ago but there's like 3 or so ebay/etsy accounts that literally just buy up the stock as fast as possible and squat scalp on it forever for like 40-80 depending on how shitty they feel like being at that moment. I have like maybe 4 or 5 of a gorilla one that was available on some other guy's site as a collab thing, and three singles of different ones I've gotten each time I've seen them actually stocked since. The reason I got so many of the gorilla one was I liked the color scheme of it and it was the only one available at MSRP because scalpers and resellers didn't notice the thing's existence yet. I didn't buy them to sell, either! The thing about these figures is they're modular and come with alternate heads (and sometimes extra parts) so you can make them into different characters.

The figure I got several of was this one by the way. It's actually a direct homage to a pre-existing Battle beast. (the image on the right)
It's got a lot more sculpt detail and articulation compared to the original too, but the thing's still PVC and entirely swivel joints.

You could probably find a sanely priced one of these on occasion. There's also some other small independent companies I've found on and off the last 10 years or so that have made their own "battle beasts but not battle beasts". There's even sometimes homages in weird places from larger companies like this example from that imaginext toyline that's somehow still a thing despite shifting from a playset building system to just normal playsets for small kids.

Been occasionally thinking of ways to possibly try and build a roster of battle beast remakes like this.

Imaginext has been single-handedly keeping 80s toylines alive. A decade ago they made a bunch of Dino Riders-like toys, but unfortunately, much like Lego, they mostly focus on licenses nowadays.

Tell me more, I'm interested. I never knew it involved playset-building.

Mattel brought back Dino Riders as a miniature set. MFA Collectables, were going to do some statues of them but never went anywhere, IP was bought by a British company so I had no hope for it. I have a feeling that Mattel is doing so many Jurassic Park/World figures so they can bring back the line as back in 2015 there were talks about a Dino Rider movie of some sort.

The modular playset building was the PRIMARY GIMMICK of imaginext and why it was called that in the first place. When it first came out back in the day it was a series of modular plates with small figures. I got a bunch of the things on clearance or discount back in the day as a kid and used to use them to make weird mazes for my smaller pets out of them. I never sold them off so they're probably in a bin somewhere in the basement gathering dust and hopefully not mold. There was also a tie in movie for some reason that was included with the one of the large castle sets. Ironically it's on youtube too.No clue of the quality but I'll link it in the spoilered thing anyways.

They had a number of themes, and the pirate and castle shit had lore tied to it. Was really neat how many action features they managed to incorporate into basically textured panels. I know some people buy these things used to make quick diorama displays nowadays sometimes, or at least they DID last time I checked, which was like maybe nearly a decade ago now and doesn't feel like it.

Please excuse the uploaders if they're weird, I can only find these archived on some weird fucking youtube channels with few exceptions.
TIE IN MOVIE/FAILED TV SERIES PILOT. (VHS rip)
It's pretty clear they don't give a shit about this being uploaded cause it's been on youtube for almost a decade now.
EDIT: Huh, the king is voiced by Optimus primal's VA and literally just sounds like him as a result.

Imaginext is basically a zombie of itself and has been for a weirdly long while now, just filling the void the fisher price adventures or whatever that famous castle toy thing that also had a western and pirate variant from the 80s-2000s left when they canned it was called. But it's licensed IP like batman instead of general themes. (though they still have those too technically)

I like how professor sumdac is tied to animated megs. Also the BW/BM part was my favorite bit. Genuinely the best way to celebrate 40 years.
Holy shit that's a blink and you miss it moment lmao. Didn't even see that till rewinding several times just now.

I've been playing around with the idea of designing a non transforming Liege Maximo titan class figure to go along with the G2 Decepticons we got one day. I have a few of the G2 Universe Cybertronian Trooper figures, lots of Jhiaxus figures I turned into more trooper figures as that figure is dirt cheap, and some Earthrise Megatron molds I'm turning into the tank troopers.
I’ve been trying to score a busted fixer-upper Armada Unicron for that express purpose. Great minds think alike.

Quoting these now because looking up battle beasts informed me of this "adventure force rexobot" figure walmart toy that's like 10 dollars and bizarrely massive and filled with electronics despite that.

This has nothing to do with Liege Maximo, I know. Might work if you could remove the head.

But the other figure they have in this line, cybomech, has a TON of sculpt detail in a way that could easily serve as a base for a non-transforming leige maximo custom too. Ironically he's blatantly based on optimus.

Neither of these are EXTREMELY articulated but they have knees, elbows, and swivels at the wrist that could put them in a solid sitting or standing pose. Latter pose being like the one pose Liege Maximo is ever seen in in g2. It'd be probably cheaper and easier than using an armada unicron, though you'd still have to sculpt some custom detail out of milliput/apoxie/whatever sculpting shit you use and repaint the whole thing various shades of green, silver (or light blue), and red.

The hands on rexobot are closer, but everything else on the other figure seems to be easier to rework into a solid custom non transforming Liege Maximo. they're apperently 12 inches tall so not SUPER massive but still pretty big.

I thought the stories were very light and done in a flash, though the Zone story and the underground Autobot base were really cool. The Marvel comics are the best Transformers comics, but the best Transformers shows are the anime, especially RID2001 and Victory. I also like how flashy and downright different the Japanese designs can get.
While i do think the stories could have been expanded on, i'd rather have something that's short but fun, instead of something that's a mountainous pile of garbage that continues for way longer than it should (once again referencing IDW here and even Earthspark, despite not being cursed with 3 seasons). I do agree that the best shows are the Transformers anime. RID2001, Victory are some of my favorites and Deathsaurus is awesome. He's one of the best Decepticons in all of Transformers to me and i wish more will be done with him in the future. I quite frankly would kill for another Transformers anime with a similiar style from the 80's or hell even 2000's, just unfortunate that old shows like that don't really get produced anymore. They look aesthetically more pleasing and would be much less expensive than a 3D show

There needs to be a Transformers series made by Studio Trigger after that short, any other TV series couldn't top what they could do.
Not necessarily. Look what happened with Gridman -- a wonderful short and then a terrible show. It could be good if they either made a crossover TV show that links all things Transformers into one universe (implied with the Sparkplug/Hot Rod/Dai-Atlas shot, and likely given Takara's obsession with continuity) sans human characters or goonerbait (that Prime Arcee frame scares me) or just made a kids' show that promotes a new toyline and stays in its lane.

You can have something short and fun yet more substantial than fight fight fight, and while you don't need that in TV, you absolutely need it in comics. The Marvel comics proved this.

The issue is that there aren't many 2D robot animators around anymore. All modern animators care about drawing is anime girl panty shots, and they can't even draw that well. The old generation of mecha animators have nowhere to pass their skills, and shows made to train new mecha animators (Buddy Complex and AMAIM) always fail, so the best you can hope for is a 2D frame or two, and in the future the current 3D mecha animators won't have anyone to pass their skills onto because all anime will be fully CG anime girl/Vtumor/Hoyoverse shows and shonen remakes, and all the animators of the future will be able to do is 3D-render bouncing breasts and rape tentacles.

PulseCon sucked for the most part. Nothing new for Transformers for the final wave of Legacy. New set's name is Age of the Primes. A few new Joes and Star Wars Black figures to pick up. Voyager Sentinel Prime though looked great. I'll need a few to customize.

I'll likely repaint him as Jhiaxus first.
